Topic: Differences between entry level Hercules consoles

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi. I'm going to buy an entry level dj console to my nephew for Christmas. So just something to play with, and i don't want to spend more than 100-150$. I'm not an expert and many people suggest Hercules consoles. Do you have any advice? I see there are 2 cheap products from Hercules, the DJ Control MP3 and DJ Control Instinct. What are the differences between these two? Thank you for the help.

if your just starting out think about the RMX 2 this is a powerful controller that will do all and when your skill grow the controller will be ready, the sound card is 100% and the only down side is it need 6 pad not 4, or you can step down to the controller under the RMX2 this will give you what you need to to gigs small or big ones, just mixing and just some loop/effects,the down side it is very small, and the sound card will pass with a ex-mixer hook up.

A selection of popular controllers can be found on our hardware page: http://www.virtualdj.com/products/hardware.html

If your Nephew intends to use the controller with VirtualDJ, make sure that the controller that you purchase comes with VirtualDJ LE included, otherwise he would need to purchase the full Professional to be able to use it with VirtualDJ. The Hercules DJ Instinct suggested above doesn't come with VirtualDJ LE included.

Take a look at the Hercules RMX. Its a bit over your budget but that might be a better choice of controller.

I still don't get what's the difference between these consoles, except the price. What can't he do with a Hercules MP3 that a Hercules Istinct would? Same for the MK2, the RMX, etc. There are a lot of products but i don't understand what's worth buying for a newbie.

It's pretty clear, if you plan to buy VDJ then the Hercules DJ Instinct is a very good buy to make for a learning starter kit..

Often a big part of the difference between the very cheap models and the ones that cost a bit more, is the lack of soundcard inside the cheaper models.. Such as the Hercules Mp3.

If the goal is just to have some fun, and not care too much about how well the mix sound, having no soundcard inside is fine.

But if the aspiration is to be a tiny bit serious about mixing, headphone prelisten is a must.. The controllers with soundcard inside makes using headphones to cue up and check out the mix, before crossfading over to let the crowd hear it, super easy.

Personally I'd strongly recommend getting one of the models with soundcard inside. Its soooooooooooo much more fun, sooo much more usable, and you can learn and grow to be a decent dj on those ;)

(that being said - with no soundcard inside the controller - its possible to use solution with 2 soundcards on the pc.. but thats not a very common way )

How old is your nephew?

Ok thank you. BTW he's 16.
