I was using the Numark Mixtrack Pro and traded it in on a new Pioneer DDJ S1 controller. I did not have any issues with the Numark unit controlling the VDJ software.
I am using the latest version of VDJ 7
I did the following:
1. I went to Pioneer's website and downloaded DDJ-S1 Driver (Ver. 1.001): Updated 25-Apr 2011.
2. I installed on a Windows 7 64 bit laptop.
3. I have rebooted computer after driver install.
4. I have connected Pioneer unit to power supply and to computer via USB.
5. I connected audio cables to amp/speakers
5. All lights on Pioneer unit are lit.
6. Virtual DJ is set to use the S1`mappings.
7 Using the mouse I can play music on both decks on the laptop. I hear sound ok through speakers.
8. I cannot use a single button on the Pioneer unit. They are all lit, but play, crossfader, etc do not do anything.
I thought that since the S1 is supported by VDJ 7 that is was a plug and play operation.
Any ideas.
thanks
Dale

I had the same problem with my pioneer S1. It would take me sometimes 30 minutes to get it working. I then tried the steps below and it now works.
I installed the Itch software disc provided with the the unit and then upgraded to Itch 2 on the internet.
I now start itch and verify pioneer S1 unit is working.
I then close Itch and start Virtual VJ 7.
I may have to power on/off the S1 but then the S1 works correctly.

same problem here Mac osx 10.6.8 ,vdj 7.0.5. ddjs1 works with itch .Sound works in vdj ,but no midi. Cannot rename midi device ,only create new aggregate which doesnt help.

There is no need to create an aggregate device.
Please read this http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/162010/Hardware_Technical_Support/DDJ-S1_Help.html
After renaming the device, ITCH may not work, so each time you need to go back to ITCH, you need to rename the device with the old name.
