I personally use youtube and capture the sound quality from a video onto an mp3 windows media convertor. When the music starts up, its quality is good but sometimes you can hear weird stuff probably coming from the capture card of a youtube video. So I would just like to know where I would like to download free tracks for Virtual Dj. I am looking for Trance, Techno, Hard House, and maybe a little bit of everything else. Help would be very appreciated!!!

Are you talking about promotional free or illegal free?
Most people coming to this forum are professional working DJ's who have paid for their music.
Atomix have the Grooveshark subscription service which is excellent if you don't have much music for $9.99 per month. It is integrated in the VDJ program and you can download and cache as many tracks as you want as long as you keep the subscription.

A "DJ" that steals his music from YouTube videos?
Wow, really smart to admit it on a public forum.
Hopefully any potential customers will find it and book a professional instead.

First off, don't steal music. It's nonprofessional and down right rude to other musicians and artists.
Secondly, there are all kinds of websites for free loops, beats and mixes. Search Google before ripping people off.

There are plenty of netlabes that release loads of great music for free if you bother to do your homework:
www.ektoplazm.com
www.digital-diamons.com
...not that music costs hardly anything on Beatport or iTunes these days.

DJing can very quickly become an expensive "hobby". Just like other hobbies that may turn into something more serious, if you don't have the cash, you might want to save up. If you decided to take up guitar, you wouldn't go to a music store and ask for a free sheet music and a guitar. When I started DJing there was no such thing as MP3s. Hell, CDs were just taking off for consumers, and DJs at that time didn't even dream of actually mixing with them....yet. I had to save my cash, buy turntables, a mixer, and my vinyl. One record at a time. And I walked to school uphill, both ways. LOL.

I started DJing at 16 back in 1981. We did not have the option of stealing music to learn. If you love music you will already have a collection that you have brought or have been brought Birthday Christmas gifts etc.
I am disgusted that you would think any one would think it would be OK for some one to steal something due to age and inexperience.
If I was learning to drive would you be OK with me stealing your parents car to see if I like it first?

Easy kids... Play nice in the sandbox! Rather than going off it might be best to just not answer the question or point the appropriate thread. I would imagine about 98% djs in here have ilegally downloaded something.
Hell, I had a cracked SW before I got the LE then CUE / PRO.. So any of you would like to take me on, I'm 6'3 @ 260... And I know Terry who knows ppl that knows ppl.
lets embrace everyone... lets breath ( wooosa )
for reals ppl... who doesn't know how to get mp3 now-a-days.. Who doesn't own an ipod or MP3 player of some sort. Question Relic? How do you listen to music now.. just curious

woooah.... slow down everybody... why is everyone having a go at this chap???
Confucious say...There are many paths to enlightenment.
Why is everyone so sniffy about this...
He's just a kid whos just started out... he's got no money (join the club) but he wants to learn... whats wrong with this???
We all started somewhere. I personally spent loads ov cash on sites like Beatport, Juno downloads etc when i started out, but a fair amount ov that money was wasted buying stuff that turned out not to be so good (due to Beatport only allowing potential buyers to hear the first 20 secounds ov each track)... This cash could have been better spent else where but thats the learning curve i suppose...
It wasnt til later that i found sites like Soundcloud where tunes are posted up for peer review (including free downloads). This was a revelation and has allowed me to explore many genres without having to spend hundreds ov pounds...
What is wrong with this ethos?
Music is meant to be accessable not high-brow. And like it or not Digital DJing is a cheaper way to enter this fascinating and exciting hobby/ profession than ever before. This aint gona change baby, in fact it will become cheaper and easier with each turning year.
What will make one DJ stand out above the rest is Professionalism and Energy, not whether a certain DJ has spent more money than another.
Personally I'd like to offer good luck to this new budding DJ and trust he will learn through the example ov the fine DJ's on this fine site, the best way to move forward. Whether he becomes a Hobbyist or a Pro.
Lets give him a break and hope we aint scared him off.
Good luck babes.

Nothing wrong with finding legal sites which have free downloads available.
There are lots around if (as others have said) you do some research and use your noggin.
Ripping the audio from YouTube videos though, is one of the worst possible ways of "obtaining" music.
It's low quality to start with, and as he said himself, he's getting odd noises from it too.
Starting his post with that admission wasn't a particularly good idea.....

This is one HUGE reason the QUALITY of dj's coming out is so poor. when i started djing in 94 you had to BUY records to practice and when you spent time and $$$$ on the wax you went home and practiced your ass off. i was 16 i didn't have a full time job, i played sports and had a 20 hr week bs job to have extra spending $. once i seen my first DMC championship on VHS i knew that's something i wanted to do. so practiced on friends gear and saved up to buy my own tables n a mixer. then saved up for wax. i would buy 2 records every few days (needed doubles) and practiced those records till i got the next 2 (my collection totaled 10,000 records). then i would go DIGGING at flea markets, records stores and yard sales and anywhere else i could think of finding wax. i would take road trips to philly or ny just to grab $200 worth of rare wax. that's called PAYING YOUR DUES and learning the ART FORM of djing. unfortunately if you cover up the screen on 90% of the new "dj's" they couldn't match a beat to save their life or even know when or how to mix it in at the right time without a cue point.
Now with technology EVERYONE is a "dj". if i had a $ for every person who says to me "I'm a dj too, i got (insert software name here)" then i usaully get "where do you get your music, and your videos look so clean. do you download them off (insert p2p or youtube)" they are so confused when i say i PAY for video subscriptions and that my music is free from the labels.
if you don't see why some people are offended by some of the posts in this thread then you must be young, have a 9-5 or have NEVER dug for records. Some of use do this for a living in a professional environment and its a bit insulting sometimes how "microwaves" wanna be spoon fed. no one told him to spend $$$$$ on music and gear but at least invest something into your hobby/profession etc.
Me personally i could care less about all the new "microwaves" coming out because all it does is separate me from the rest of them more. in this business yes BUSINESS, REAL usually recognizes REAL so it it only helps me get more calls. THANKS MICROWAVES!!!!!!
PS. in the time it took me to type this post 20 more people became a "DJ" ;)
