I have be using VDJ for a couple of years now. I just play around with it, making mixes for myself and friends. Within the last month my mixes haven't been turning out so great (they're not that great in the first place, but they have been worse than normal). I let the program analyze the songs for the BPM. I sometime do it manually aswell especially since I have been experiencing these problems. Lately the beats will not stay synced when I am using the same BPM's. It's mostly with hip hop songs. It also seems the quality is not as good lately. I've upgraded to the latest VDJ (5.2.1 I believe). I have a Dual Core 3.0 GHz machine running XP with 4 gigs of RAM. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be the problem?
Thanks

What type of setup do you have?

I am using sigmatel audio card that came with the computer and soundblaster live pci card that I installed in the computer. I have used this combination for a while and had no problems. Is there any other info you need?

To tell you the truth, I started using Virtual dj when it was Automix, and that magic stick button that was on there mixed two songs perfectly. I still run that on my computer, and that software mixes two songs in sync perfectly, the same two songs on VDJ do not sync at all never mind perfectly. I dono if there is something Im missing but Iam not a computer genius and sometimes I feel as if VDJ has alot of setup choices for the user which can be good and bad. Still a very solid software, but the sync in vdj 4.x and 5.x got better, versions before were horrible, of course this is my personal opinion....other people will chime in ......

But I haven't had a problem until recently. Maybe it's the songs I'm trying to mix. I read on here sometimes about people with illegal copies and their problems with mixing. It almost feels like I have an illegal copy. I know I don't because I bought it, but that's what it feels like to me.

you may want to scan using mixmiester software and see if you get the same bpm, as you did in virtual dj. Are you using any hardware (Turntables or cdplayers)? ALso make sure your pitch control is 0 on both tracks if your only using software and both songs have same bpm. You will just need to drop deck 2 on correct beat. Than it should stay synced up. Some songs will change bpm. There are a few tracks that I can think of that will go from 110 down to about 92.

I am only using the software, not any turntables or cdplayers. I will try what you suggest. I messed around with a dance mix and those songs pretty much stayed sync. So it seems to be a problem with hip hop kinda songs. 2 songs that I am specifically trying to mix are by Beyonce. Singles Ladies and Got Me Bodied. They will not stay synced.

those 2 song wont stay in sync for me either

i think it happens with few songs, i.e. chris browns forever has a steady beat but somewhere halfway through it kind of loses it, so if im havin a sampler on it will go off beat halfway through

It should be the issue between two different tracks but not all of it. To test if you're in doubt if the software has the problem, try cloning either of the tracks to either side decks and leave it playing without touching anything, if the two cloned tracks stays out of sync then the software you have has a problem somehow.

I noticed that the sync feature became useless after Virtual dj 3.0. I remember locking two tracks together, leaving the room, coming back and the songs would still be in sync.
While the sync button maybe useless, you can visually match up the beats by looking at the wave displays. match up the peaks and you are good to go.
There is a bit of a drift, which is fine, this make me put some effort into my mixing.

Could it be that AtomixMp3 used 'Magic Beat Lock' when you pressed the button to 'sync' the two decks?
you could try in VDJ make a Keyboard short cut for Magic beat lock (as there isnt a skin with this by default)
try that and see if it helps.
I used to use this to 'zero' the pitch of the song im mixingin and it would lock the pitch of the first deck to keep it synced.

I'm glad to see they don't sync for you either. How about Common - Universal Mind Control and Flo-Rida - Elevator? I think that's the group who does the 2nd song. I'm at work right now. I have problems with those songs as well.
I will try everyone's suggestions when i try another mix. Right now I am a little frustrated with the problems so I'm not sure when I am going to do another. But I'll try soon. Thanks.

here is why those songs are not mixing and the problusing software ect..... extend the bpm's to decimal points and elevator is 119.92 bpm and universal mind control is 119.95 so they will drift

Welcome to the world of hip hop. People have been complaining for years that they cannot mix hip hop. Thats because it is the hardest genre to master. Good luck my friend, sometimes two songs just won't mix. If you cant seem to get em right try two more.

Hi all i find that although beat lock is handy to obviously keep the beats locked together. i find that sync works better for me as if you are using timecode vinyls and you find that your bpms keep slightly fluctuating beat lock can just throw the mix completely out. a little rick you may like to try to stop your bpms from fluctuating when using timecode vinyls is to increase your pitch sensitivity on the timecode config screen up to say around 2000 ms. this cured it for me completely and you will find that your scratching won't me effected either.
have fun, hope this helps.

when a track is analyzed if the beat grid isn't recorded correctly, that can affect your mixing. It depends on the songs, the beats, and you. I don't have time to go through and adjust every beat grid that is off, so I either bend the pitches to get it on track, or I don't mix that song.
My Dougie is a track that I have to do that with.

Hello!
I just purchased the virtual dj 7.0.5 version and finally got it installed with my pioneer ddjs1 mixer. I had to change the MIDI controller name in my Mac for DDJ S1 MIDI in order to work. Although ddjs1 supports natively vdj i have encountered so far two issues: first the led lights of the mixer blink like crazy and both sync buttons don´t work.
I´m not an experienced dj, in fact i just purchased the equipment for the first time so all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
