This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi there, i know people have made timcode cds that run for 70mins instead of the standard 12min. is is possible to make a continuous mp3 data cd with one timecode signal which could run for several hours - therefore never having to change the track or have the cd run out?

Obviously using with cdj1000mk3

Have you got any tracks that last 'hours' where you are having the problem of the timecode running out?

Gary

Hi set it to smart mode then it wont stop your music if it ends.

You cannot make a continuous signal as it would cut the audio as the code would return the track to the start every 12 minutes.

I opted to make a cd with several tracks of the timecode, when one timecode track ends the next one begins effectivly offering nearly 70 mins. of timecode. I also put my cd decks on reapeat all so I never have to worry about hitting stop & taking the timecode back. Simple instructions are in my blog;^]

yeah i knew all that! but it can be annoying when i go to scratch and the track is almost at the end - and it doesnt read the signal or has stopped completely because i forgot to chagne the setting to "continue" on the cdj. just wondering because im going to make a couple timecode cd's and want to make the most of it - i would never have to reset the cd back to track one when they run out.

but it may not work because the cdj may not be able to read a mp3 file that long - over 200 minutes.

TCCD Length, Did You Know?
Timecode CD is only 12 mins. long, unfortunatly a few songs are longer than that. Did you know there's a very simple sollution? All you have to do is burn a few tracks of the timecode on the same CD (I used Nero) and set your cd deck to continious play (usualy the default setting). Simple as that, now if your timecode runs out before the song ends it will go to the next track of timecode seemlesly, effectivly offering you as much timecode length as you can fit on a CD, I only used 3 tracks per cd but that's all up to you. Just make sure your CD burning software doesn't add any silence between tracks and you should be good to go;^]

Does that work in all modes Timmy ? I would have guessed VDJ would jump back to start of track each time a new track started on your timecode CD (at least in relative and absolute timecode mode)

But maybe it works in smart mode ;) And if so, cool solution

But then again, in smart mode, even if the timecode cd did run out, the track would continue to play in VDj :)

Yup, I'm using it in smart mode. I tryed this first because using alot of scratching and juggling, it makes one less thing to have to worry about and frees me up to put more of my focus into other things. I've had no problems so far, the time it's inactive between tracks is so quick it never happens while moving the platter. There is about a second when it goes back to the beggining of the cd, but one second every 70 mins ain't too shabby if you ask me..lol;^]

Timmy,
I've been using your method since i got VDJ (i've burned 4 tccd tracks in each cd) , but what about the 12 second at the end of each track where you can't control the timecode ( i guess is the normal run out feature or something) until it hits the next track. You mention 1 second, can you please explain.

Thanks in Advance

I don't have 12 seconds between tracks, using Nero there's maybe a millisecond if that. The full second is when the full cd ends and goes back to the beggining (using repeat all) of the cd. Your burning program may be adding extra silence between tracks to give that result, 12 seconds is a long time for scratch dj's;^]

yeah its the 12 sec transition of uncontrollable decks between songs that iv noticed too - as the two tracks are changing.

I just double checked my system, there is about 15 seconds, don't know how I missed that. It's in the cd track itself, I thought you meant between tracks. It can still be worked around, but kinda does defeat the purpose of making the long cd. Guess I've never cut on that 15 second mark, wonder if manualy editing out the last 20 seconds of the timecode track would work. Might give it a try later tonight;^]

thats why i was wondering if its possible to edit the signal using cubase or wavepad to make one track 70 minutes long - or making a mp3 data cd with 'hours' of signal.

ive made a file 280 minutes long 652mb but havnt been able to try it just yet!

No luck, editing out the lead out does as Sky said, the next timecode track returns the song to the beggining. I also tryed looping the timecode track in Vegas, and it still leaves the lead out uncontrolable for about 15 secs. about every 12 minutes. Oh well, I can still deal with it;^]

Yeah i have no problem with it either(i got use to it), it just when you said 1 second i got a little bit excited. je,je

I just want to ask, if you use Timecode CDs with VDJ, can you use them with standard 5.1 sound card, or it has to be a special one like a Stanton Final Scratch Open, Native Instruments Audio Kontrol 1, Numark DJ I/O, MixVibes U46 MKII, Native Instruments Audio 8 DJ... ?

Yo can anybody help me??

I have 2 numark tt1626 direct drive tables and a cheap numark mixer. I also have virtual DJ. I want to use timecoded vinyl to scratch the mp3's I play on virtual dj on my table. How exactly would I go about doing this? I am a beginner so bare with me. I know I need a soundcard (what kind, which one) what else do I need? Help...please?
