Topic: Help with Sony Vegas

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I recently got sony vegas but havent a clue what I am doing.

What has happened is that I ripped a dvd with TMPGenc but instead of the invidual chapters being ripped as individual video files I have the whole dvd as 1 video file. I expected TMPGenc to rip as chapters but it wont do it (or Im doing something wrong).

All I want is to mark the chapter points on this large file and have Vegas save the lot as individual files. How do I do it?
Any help would be appreciated.

You need to use some scripts which I can provide for you. Download the scripts from this link www.djderricke.com/OtherScripts.rar

If you don't have the RAR program to unpack the file, download it from www.rarlabs.com

Once you've downloaded the file and unpack the files to c:\program files\sony\vegas 8.0\script menu (replace the version number with the version that you are using.)

Open Vegas and load your project. Create markers in the spots where you want to split the file, and be sure to name the markers because those will become the file names for each split. Now here comes the fun part...

In Vegas go to TOOLS/SCRIPTING and you should see a LOT of different scripts, there are two that you need to use.

Look for the script called "Markers To Regions" and execute it. Now your markers should be magically converted to regions.

Next run the script "Batch Renderer". From there just pick what format you want the file to be in, where you want to save them, and make sure you choose Render Regions from the three options at the bottom of the screen.

PM me if you have trouble with the directions.

OMG... That sounds like a lot of work. How long does it take for your to rip a 15 track DVD?

I'm not sure what you are asking, if you are trying to rip a DVD into individial chapter (Videos) with Vegas this is how I do it)

Just put the DVD in the drive, under FILE select Import DVD - Camcorder Disk, Sony will extract the files, takes about 10 minutes depending on your computer. They will all be VOB files, you can compress them if you wish. I've quit using compression, drive space is dog cheap these days.

If this is NOT what you were asking then just calll me a DORK, the shoe usually fits.

Now that would do the job much better. However if he doesn't want the files in a VOB format, the scripts do a much better job. It a little bit of work to get them setup, but once they are in, they are a huge time saver.

Thanks a lot guys. Will give it a try. This forum is invaluable!

Thanks djrenee!

You definately are no DORK coz its exactly what I needed. Just tried it and it works a treat, all my dvd chapters as individual files and in 10 minutes like you said.
You are also right about the VOB files coz the quality Im getting is amazing!

Thanks again!

I'm going to try that next time. I've been using Vegas since version 1.0 and I can never keep up with the new features. Thanks for that tip DJrenee.
