This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

1. Can the vestax vci-100 work with virtual dj.

2. Does anybody here use the unit and what is your opinion of it.

3. Does it scratch.

4. Vestax vci 100 vs. Numark total control which one would you get.

Haven't tried either one, but if I were in the market for a new controler I'd go with the Vestax. Reason being I seem to remember reading that the Vestax had touch sensative jogs, this is crucial for scratch DJ's;^]

Thanks for the quick info.

Hi Bigmark,

Best to try before you buy with anything, but all I can say is that I'm very happy with it.

It's solid, heavy, great quality throughout, an impressive array of functions, and imo looks the part as well.

It works well with the general midi map in VDJ, and I have shared an XML file on the site to save you mapping it yourself, but I believe native support for the controller will be with us soon.

The VCI-300 is nearly with us, the main differences:

- It has an onboard soundcard (this is down to preference, but if you already have a good external, you're paying for something you don't need)

- Mainly designed for Serato Itch (some missing knobs/buttons from the VCI-100), this is my main problem with the 300, the lack of parameter control for effects (VCI-100 has 4), and the general layout of the controller is a step backwards imo.

- Larger and ligher jogwheels, the wheels are many times more sensitive than the 100's (I think 10), as are the pitch sliders (a slight problem with the 100, it's not always possible to move from for example 100.1bpm to 100.2bpm, it usually is but not always (depends on the songs).

- It's black (preference) and uses the lights differently (probably better)

- Bundled with Serato Itch over Traktor LE

- About £150 more expensive (around a £500 price tag)

I think that just about covers it, I hope that helps.

how does it compare to cdjs bagpuss? I cold be tempted to go for the 300 over a pair of CDJs mainly for cost, and I also hate setting up time code in clubs...but what are the jogs like compared to a nice big touch sensitive platter?

I've used the Torque Exponent and they are nice big heavy wheels that feel very natural. But the unit is too big to take to a club.

I have the VCI-100 - have set it up with VDJ and I was definitely impressed, but admittingly I have been using Traktor these days with it. The VCI-300 is going to be kick-ass but it looks like the have pushed the release date back to August (listed as that on the PSSL website). Anyway - if you need something now, the VCI-100 is good.....maybe pick one up on ebay.

I also have the Denon HC-4500 which is a whole different controller, but a great one. Depending on what kind of stuff you are doing, I don't think that the 4500 is a good controller for a scratch DJ. If you are in to scratching and turntablism, I would totally wait for the the Vestax VCI-300. I hear that it has been revamped with scratch DJ's in mind and there are many improvements made to the platters, tension on the platters can be set by user, etc...

It seems like everything is always a waiting game....but the cool thing is that there is so much new gear coming out....and so many decisions that you can make.

CDJ's? Much better than the 100's and 200's, but not as good as the 800's/1000's due to the size of the wheels. Also, the VCI-100 DOES have Touch sensitive platters, so it does allow you to manipulate the beat as well as a CDJ, just not for scratching where you need a wider rotary (although it can be done with decent results), great for backspins.
