Hm, that is strange, which version exactly do you use as you have TC? Your info about scanning should be in Virtual DJ folder if you use earlier version (3.x, 4.x) named "VirtualDJ database.xml" or in My Documents "VirtualDJ Database v5.xml" (version 5.x).
Configuration (settings of VDJ) is in the registry base, so it is strange that it resets itself.

another question while i have everybody's ear, is there a faster way to analyze your drives? can you stop the scan and come back to the same place you stopped?

Of course you can, you can scan track by track (hold ctrl and select tracks in file browser) or folder by folder.

What is your computer specs?
OS:
PROCESSOR:
RAM:
SOUNDCARD:
VIDEOCARD:
INTERNAL / EXTERNAL HD:
It should take a system to load a track in about 3 - 6 seconds. Longer if your computer is not up to par and you should still be able to start playing while deck is loading.

Your Cpu is ok, but you should upgrade ram memory to at least 1Gb to speed loading up. Also, your system is on the very slow 40Gb drive that is used for swap file.

When building your own computer it's not so difficult to replace the internal hard drive, and it's not so expensive. But personally I got really bad experience with Compaq computers. If you don't know how, let someone with experience help you!
You don't say anything about the rpm of the 40 gb hard drive, but standard is 5400 or 7200 i think. The faster the rpm on your hard drive is, the shorter time it takes for windows to write and read the swap file from/to disk.
Therefore: get an hard drive with high RPM (cheap nowadays) and replace your old 40 gb. But remember if you remove your 40 gb, you need to reinstall windows and all it's software, and of course the drivers for your Compaq. So be sure you have backup of everything before changing hard drive (stored keys, software, personal files and so on..)
Hope it's not too confusing and sorry if I have bad grammar and stuff :)
