Topic: Turntable and Laptop set up

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi all,

I was wondering if someone could help me with setting up virtual DJ programmed on my laptop to use with my turntables. I know I have to get the Time coded vinyls but how do I set it up so that I can hear one channel while another is playing. I have the complete set up (2 tables and mixer) how do I sync it with my laptop? Are there any plug ins or connections I need to purchase in addition to what I have? Or are the time coded vinyls all I need? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi, i have a lap top as well as desk top.. The laptop is easy to hook up.. You will need a two channel mixer, two turn tables .. two time code records. the next thing is a 2 in and two out sound card eso makes a maya version i got on ebay. how it works it you take the lines off the record players and hook the rca into the in channels ... then the outs go to your mixer and then go into settings and and make it time code records and set the mixer .. now take the line from the mixer master and hook it in to the speakers ... as you spin the records the time code will set and manupilate the song.. if you have any questions post more info its easy .. remember to set the virt dj program as main priority in the task manager this will stop any issues with other programs...

The guides were very helpful. I'm a visual learner and I saw one of the links had an actual set up which was just what i needed to see. The person that posted the topic was using a mac. I have a gateway laptop. 2 Newmark tt200's and a dm3002x 3 channel numark mixer. will the maya44 sound card work for this set up?

Yes the maya will work. The four inputs of the maya are for your tt's, left/right for each deck, the 4 outputs go to your mixer, channel 1&2 left/right. Good luck.

thats like the portable version i have ... down load the new drivers from eso for maya ... then hook it up...

Which do you all think is better? Should I just get the maya sound card and use the TC vinyls or should I just go with one of the all-in-one controllers? If the controllers, which do you recommend. If the maya, what are the price ranges. I would like to have both eventually but which should I get first? and where can I get either or for the best price?(Price is a huge deal right now.)

If price is a huge deal you can pick up a Hercules MK2 (probably on e-bay). That is a soundcard and a controller. There are other options similar. Search the forums and you'll find many topics covering controllers. If you are just mixing house and have no plans for scratching or turntablism I would recommend a controller. I personally like the feel of timecodes and a stand alone mixer but that is just a matter of preference.
