SmashVidz is a great service!
I've been with them for a few weeks now.
I've seen interest among several of my co-workers at ProSound and know of at least one person who has joined do far.
Anyone can get PO or ERG subscriptions, but if you want to step up the quality of your audio & visual performances by exhibiting unique, high quality content, a SmashVidz subscription is a must have!
I hope to see quite a few recurrents in the near future too, assuming that they can get their hands on some un-watermarked original content from the labels or wherever.
Kind of makes me want to start making my own a/v mashupz as well. ;)

We also have been using Smashvidz for a while now, the only thing i have noticed is that they seem to do alot or R&B, although thay now do dance and some other forms about 80% still seems to be R&B.
I am also with you guys in that i don't like how they have there website listed as part of the logo showed.

I used quite a few videos from Smashvidz this weekend. They worked out well. Much respect for all the DJ/VJ's who contributed their edits to the rest of the community.

Is there any alternative to smashvidz when it comes to extended/edited versions?
What is to stop you from subscribing, downloading all the available content and then making no further payments? (contract?)
I guess if they were adding enough videos per month to justify the monthly payment, there would be no reason to do this.
Is there a list of what videos they have?
Posted Tue 19 Feb 08 @ 12:47 pm
no list, no contract. u could dl all i guess then cancel....but how would u get new videos? subscribe every month & then cancel every other month? the whole point of a pool is to promote the new videos & provide feedback. if you want to see a list the best thing for you to do is schedule a demo session & give it a shot for yourself.
to all exsisting members please don't post list on forums, thanks ;-)

Yes,
But if you are paying a set price per month, it would be nice to be guaranteed a set amount of videos, so the ratio of $$ to video is good value.

Only you can decide if it is a good value, to you. At the moment, It's a good value for me, but may not be for you. You have to try it, to see for yourself. I don't use every video on Promo Only, but I still have a subscription. They could guarantee 30 videos a month, but if you can only use 5, what good is the guarantee?

Sure I'd choose quality over quantity any day of the week, I'll have to give it a try as you say.
Is this service restricted to people in the U.S?
Posted Tue 19 Feb 08 @ 2:12 pm
I think they like all kinds of money.
Posted Tue 19 Feb 08 @ 2:16 pm
So it's just the U.S then? :)
Posted Tue 19 Feb 08 @ 2:21 pm
no its not. contact them with your details & location ;-)

So far for me its been a life saver, promo really sucked this month missing what I think are 2 key videos to have right now. One is low and the other is get buck in here both missing from promo only express video. If your a promo only subscriber your feeling what I mean this month and last. The last few weeks of express video has been total garbage.

All of the suppossedly illegal services (according to promo only - my12inch, smashvidz, exclusive grooves do not have licensing rights and are on "borrowed time") get the videos in a somewhat timely manner but the "licensed" companies like Screen Play and Promo Only are so far behind most of the time (Cyclone just came out in January...sorry song was burned out, dead and burried by then)...but I got it on my12inch in OCTOBER...the quality leaves a bit to be desired and I have to remaster the sound on most of them, but you know, I never had 1 customer complain that the resolution was too low to see that booty grindin' action.
If they (the labels) want their product promoted...and they want us to properly pay the rights for it........... then it is REAL simple. Give us a means of getting it easlily, priced fairly, NO DRM, and in a timely manner. It should be a no brainer for a multi billion dollar industry....I mean this IS their business folks.............could you imagine how fast we would have solar powered cars if the gasoline companies jerked people around like this AND kept their high prices!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They require a website on the application? So I'm not a real VJ if I don't have a site? BS. Also, does anyone know if they do background checks to see if the clubs you work in are paying licensing fees?
Posted Tue 19 Feb 08 @ 11:13 pm
no u don't have to have a website....but we have to be able to verify that u are indeed a professional working dj. theres many other ways to do this. but at this day in age 98% of people in this business @ the very least have a myspace with a full schedule. so ususally this is what people fill in/ but again. this is not mandatorry.

Subcribed last night,
I must say I'm impressed with the service, although the content is not balanced enough for me, It's over 90% Urban which is ok (I need lots of Urban), but I'd like to see a lot more of other dance styles as well (House, Club, Breaks, Indie, Rock, Cheese etc)
Video quality is GOOD not great imo, I'd happily see greater resolution even if the trade off is reduced download speed, as they say this sevice is not for consumers but working VJ's.
I'll provide more detailed feedback to them via E-mail.

I have been trying them out for a month and I think it worth the montly fee for me now. The quality of the videos are good enought to project on a 50 plasma. but it could be a little better.
