I am considering purchasing VDJ/CUE, along with a MIDI controller (likely the DMC2), and a very good laptop sound card. As such, I have some questions before purchasing:
1 - The laptop I plan on getting is a Core2 Duo 2.20ghz, 2GB RAM, Windows XP, and using an eSATA hard drive for music, and the laptop will be used exclusively for DJ'ing, OS and DJ software only. The sound card I am considering is the Echo Indigo DJ. I assume each of the two outputs can be assigned to one of the VDJ decks? I plan on using a rack-mounted 19-inch mixer. Any foreseeable latency issues?
2 - Is the DMC2 natively supported? Is the CBG synched with the LEDs on the controller?
Thank you.
Vin

That will be a good computer do you intend to do video? in which case get a video card of atleast 256mb.
It is natively supported and a mapper is available too , the leds to not sync to the beat as far as i am aware.

thanks Sky, I do not intend to do video, I am strictly a mobile DJ, weddings, private parties, etc.
How about the Denon HC4500 as a controller/sound device?

There are some firmware issues with that device at the moment with is making it crash in all apps , so adding native support wont be possible until this is patched by Denon.

Errm, no offense, but according to Silvio on denondjforums, the issue lies with VDJ, not on the Denon side. I guess it's the DMC2 then.
How about the Echo Indigo DJ PCMCIA card?

I think they would say that, I don't think they would blame Denon, I know there are firmware issues with Denon. I love Denon ( got a nice Denon system at home ) but that is what is stoppind me from going with them as far as a controller.
Stick with the DMC2, it's proven.

Only thing you need to know about the DMC2
It's Designed , and built for VDJ & Numark Cue.
Anything Else has to be Frankenstein - ed into it - Some do great in terms of functionality (dac2,dac3,hercules)
some are crap - BCD2000.
I have a DMC2 and have no intentions of changing it until Numark or VDJ come out with a better controller that is designed, supported, and Mapped for VDJ right of the box.
Untill then - everything is flashing lights.

Any recommendations for a kick-ass audio card?

why don't you get the numark cm200usb, has two sound cards incorporated and is a great match for the dmc2
one thing you should know about the dmc2 is that has an annoying toggle to change the wheels assignment, but you will get feedback on the lcd you just have to remeber to check what mode you are in, I hate that they did put a toggle for so many modes but other wise is the best match for vdj
also it can scratch but the wheels are not touch sensitive so the scratcing is not the dmc's strong point

The reason I don't want the CM200USB mixer is because I heard directly from a Numark rep that an external unit such as the DJiO is better, in terms of latency and frequency response. So, I figure I'll get as good a laptop sound card as I can afford. The E-Mu 1616 series is a bit rich for me, so I was thinking about the Echo Indigo DJ.

The DMC-2 mapper has this option, and it works similar to 'Beat Keeper' on Numark CD players.

You can optionally turn off any of the jogwheel modes using the DMC-2 mapper. The DMC-2 mapper also has less jogwheel modes by default because loop adjustment is a mode selected via the FX/Sampler button.
The Normal (Default) mode works better too - Scratches when paused and pitch bends when playing, just like most hardware CD players.

I did owned the cm200usb and sounds great, but if you wanna use tccd or tcv an external card is required, I sold mine when I got the Pioneer djm800
I just orderd my Focusrite Saffire LE, is bout$250 is firewire and it should do the job.
I did not want to use the mapper for DMC because I think in that case you can't use the general midi without conflicts.

For firewire, I had my eye on the M-Audio Audiophile unit.
Is an ASIO driver required, or can hardware direct be used?
All the info and tips are much appreciated.

I looked at the M-Audio 410 but is just a two channel input so...
Posted Thu 10 Jan 08 @ 11:01 pm
I don't need any inputs, not using timecoded media.
Posted Thu 10 Jan 08 @ 11:07 pm
you will need to have at least one stereo input if you plan to record your set from an external mixer, which pretty much every sound card has. my advice is if you will use this professionally, dont spend the lowest amount of a soundcard. its like buying a fast looking car with a slow engine

Stating that the BCD is crap is an opinion of some here i use it basically to control the software and mix with it on Virtual DJ Radio.
On radio i do not use TCCD's just in clubs and i have not had 1 issue with the controller for the last 8 months playing on Virtual DJ radio. I have even used the BCD 2000 on NYE and played from 7pm to 6am without 1 fault using VDJ
yes there are some sound card issues, when using TCV or TCCD's and with also mic issues when used with VDJ but dont say things are crap with out first using the device

I have pretty much settled on the M-Audio FireWire Audiophile as the sound card I am going to use, unless anyone has negative experience with it. It has 2 outputs, one input, near zero latency hardware monitoring, ultra low latency ASIO monitoring. Excellent specs regarding frequency response, dynamic range, and signal to noise.

I had one for about 6 months. It was a pile of junk. I returned it for store credit and got a DAC2.
