Topic: what you think about this combo?

i wonder if perfomence would be better if you used sata instead of firewire or usb2.0. I know sata is like 3 times faster, but does video mixing need that extra pump?

pci express sata adapter:

raid external drive with sata output:

now i do have 2 of those externals already, so i can vouge that they work good. its pretty pimp. u can put up to 1tb into each bay & can configure them to be one big drive or singles. it also comes with a sata plate so u can mount to your pc if needed so u can hook directly to ypur mother board via sata.

whats your thoughts?

I use 2 e-sata external drives. It has been very reliable, decode time seems faster, which can be important particularily when running video. The difference is small though. The bottleneck is drive speed, so using raid system with e-sata as u mentioned would likely work well. Also, be sure to get high RPM drives. Only drawback is i can not find 'road worthy' e-sata cables. they are stiff and cheaply made.

Yes.... well i did read something recently about a Seagate drive that was 10K RPM.... but 7200 is almost standard these days, which means price and availability is reasonable. Also, reliability is not an issue.
