This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

A guy walks into the local welfare office for his monthly check. He
marches straight up to the counter and says, "Hi. You know, I just HATE
coming in here drawing welfare month after month. I'd really much rather
have a job.

The social worker behind the counter says, "Your timing is excellent.
We just got a job opening from a very wealthy old man who wants a
chauffeur-bodyguard for his nymphomaniac daughter. You'll have to drive
around in his Mercedes, but he'll supply all of your clothes. Because of
the long hours, meals will be provided. You'll be expected to escort her
on her overseas holiday trips. You'll have a two-bedroom apartment above
the Garage. The starting salary is $200,000 a year".

The guy says, "You're bull$%#&ting me!?"

The social worker says, "Yeah, well, you started it!"

Too bad humour is more often than not correct in identifying a situation...............I personally know two ways to get rid of the wellfare lines...hire them to work at the damn DMV or other government offices and then we can eliminate those lines also by processing more peopl at the same time...The government keeps saying it costs too much to put the welfare people to work, hello, YOU (WE) ARE ALREADY PAYING THEM, just make them do something useful with their time for our money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the mid-90's and early millenium Ontario and Manitoba flirted with the idea of Workfare.

I can't remember why it didn't fly, there were a couple of court challenges, some human rights groups made some noise, but all in all the concept slowly faded away.

Simple concept - welfare recipiants must do some form of work to receive they're welfare checks. Hense the name - "workfare"

I was Highly in favour of this concept. Guess i was on the wrong end of that argument.

Here's a novel idea...
Make them pass a drug test to qualify.

Lets face it, they aren't gong to get a job these days with a drug habit.
So that is what we are really paying for, and their kids are the one who really suffer.

That would put a stop to most of the abuse.
Wake up people, its our money going down the drain.

If you only knew what employers get hit for that shit, you'd puke.
