I am looking for a crossover fader curve that simply fades out the current song and as the current song fades out the new song starts playing at FULL volume (no fade-in for the new song).
Does something like this exist? I am finding that during an automix... the beginnings of my songs that get faded in seem to get cut off. And not because they were skipped over... because the audio was fading in and it wasn't heard.
Thanks in advance.

You can download the crossfader curves plugin
http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/view.html?type=sound%20effect
And some skins have also built in crossfader curves buttons next to the crossfader.
Your behaviour is also possible to set in VDJ options, choosing FULL for crossfader behaviour

Not sure I follow. Cause thats what FULL crossfader setting does. It fades out Deck A gradually as you move crossfader to deck B.
You want Deck B to start first when Deck A is fully faded out?

I want it to run the way Mixmeister does its automix. It fades out the current song and as the current song fades out... the new song starts playing at 100% volume to start.

like this ?

Download the crossfader curves plugin, it has lots of curves :)

Btw, you can make your own curve too, in that plugin ;)

Yes that curve may do it if it doesn't cut off part of the beginning of the song.
See how mixmeister handles this fade? The below song starts at full volume while the current song fades out. Granted I wouldn't want that long of a fade-out but that can be adjusted in VDJ.

I installed the curves but I think i have to restart VDJ to use them and I am live right now.

Mixmeister ..hum.. I just realized that you are talking about automix.
The crossfader curve plugin might not work in automix, but you can give it a try.
If it works, I guess you have to turn off crossfader in automix settings

Ok how do I set this up. I just rebooted and I can see the curves in effects now.

Yes I am talking strictly automix. That's why I am having difficulty with this. I can easily emulate the fade I want doing it manually. I just move the crossfader bar half way when its under FULL... hit play on the second track... then move the fader over to complete the fade.

Try to turn off crossfade in VDJ automix options, and turn on this plugin for both decks in the Effect browser.
does that work?
edit: Tested, and that doesnt work, automix own crossfader curves seems to be over-ruling all other settings... sorry
Maybe a new feature, that automix can allow plugin to choose behaviour

Ok... well it didn't "didn't work". LOL
The fade sounds a little better. Is there any way to adjust the curve so it actually starts fading out the current song before it hits the second song at full volume? That is the way I want to set it up ideally.
You know when you play Timbaland "The Way I Are"... its critical to crank those beginning beats to pump the crowd up. If you weakly fade it in... it doesn't get quite the crowd response. I am sure you know what I mean.

What you mean? did it work?
if so you can choose a bunch of presents in the plugin, and you can even make your own custom curve

You know I started fooling around with this. And while the crashguard came up on me twice (duh)... I tried to create a fade that I thought I liked. But everytime I tried to activate it on both decks... the full fade came back up. Is this what you were referring to about it not working with automix?
Posted Wed 26 Dec 07 @ 10:33 pm
hum, i didnt have it work at all.. maybe I did something wrong.
One thing for you to test (not at my VDJ pc now), try activate it only at ONE deck, the automix deck..
Reason for the crash might be that automix dont really use two decks

Maybe this would work with the two deck automix? When i physically move the crossfader back and fourth it seems to follow my fader curve. But the new automix does not seem to be affected by these curves? :-(
Ahhhh... just another reason to give the user the option to pick which style of automix they prefer.
