Topic: Soundcard Input Usage

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I see that under the Desktop "Folder" in my browser, there is a soundcard section which lists all available inputs on installed soundcards. I also see that when dragged to a deck, there is a scrolling waveform that reflects the live audio stream present on that input.
What can I do with this though?
I can't play/pause/rewind this waveform (or if I can, I don't know how, and please let me know)
Can somebody please explain a practical application of these sound card inputs? I can imagine that it has potential, but I have not yet figured out how to use it.

Thanks-

yeah, it does have potential, though limited.

As you say, it generates a waveform from a live stream/input, such as for example real vinyls from a bypass function on your soundcard, when you play real vinyls next to VDJ.

It can of course not GUESS what comes, so the wave will always be what HAS been streamed(played).

But it can be usefull when beatmixing a new track from VDJ, to blend the current live input (bypass from normal vinyl or source), where as you will see the live stream wave and your VDJ mp3 wave overlap.

Thank you norway-
It makes me all warm and fuzzy inside when people respond to posts quickly..

Looking at the waveform of an incoming track definitely seems useful for beat mixing, but are you saying that there is no way this audio can be manipulated? ie. effects, scratching, looping, stuttering? If no, this would definitely be on my new version wishlist.

Never tried that actually... but can see some nice things come out of that.
Effects could work, loops wont, as it doesnt control the input signal (well , a sampled loop could work, but thats possible with effect plugin).

I know one can with certain controllers (Hercules), so should be possible (theoretically) in VDJ too.

I could easily see some cool things done, so its on my wishlist too ;)
