Topic: Things to do in 2008

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I thought it would be a good idea to post some FREE (and in some cases) useless advice for the New Year.

Well here's mine, all DJ related.

1) Look & Sound Better!
One of the problems associated with digital DJ'ing is the drop in quality when switching from say Vinyl to MP3.
With Hard drives getting larger and cheaper, and sound systems getting bigger and better, there are no excuses for using low quality files.

Consider: 320kbps MP3 (LAME or Fraunhofer), Lossless compression such as FLAC (compatible in VDJ) or even uncompressed WAV files (not only super sound quality but they can be ripped from CD's very quickly). Or if using Video, consider using uncompressed DVD (VOB files) as DVD is the standard that most people now take for granted.

2) Try Something New!
You can do so much in VDJ, and I bet most of us only use half the features on offer.
Be sure to explore further ways in developing your creativity and add something new to your show.

* Try adding visual elements to the show (such as Music videos, Video clips or visual effects), alternatively try working with a VJ.
* Learn to Scratch or learn how to use something that's new to you (such as Midi controllers or even CD/Vinyl decks) ,
* Add some loops/single hits into the mix with the sampler (try dropping vocals for a live mash up or add some spice to the drum track), or download some VST effects and explore the countless ways you can manipulate your mix.

3) Be Safe!
Never leave the house for a gig thinking that nothing will go wrong, it can, it does and it will!
Be sure you have a complete back-up system, so no matter what element fails on you, you'll always be able to continue (obviously you can only back-up what you're responsible for).

For example:
I DJ with a laptop and midi controller:
2 controllers, both can potentially back-up the other.
2 Soundcards (integrated in the controllers).
CD's back-up the Laptop.
Spare cables, batteries (for wireless mouse), spare mouse.

This way anything that goes wrong on my part can be solved with a back-up solution.
This is easy but it still requires thought, imagine the time and money a mobile DJ would need to be "safe".

That's my FREE (3) useful or useless advice for 2008.
Lets see yours.

Explore the actions in the shortcuts. find out what they can do.

get you GF or wife- with Marvin Gaye-sexual healing or anything slow and fun for couples in a practice set even a music video, get her involded with your music, dance, have fun rekindle the relationship a bit.
"trust me, that works 99.9% of the time ;-) & she stopped hating me experamenting with VDJ tricks"

other then that all has been said off the top of my head above ;-)
