OK... feel free to tell me I am an idiot!
I hope there is an easy solution for this. I am using Cue 4.3.
Is there a way I can get a mic to work with VDJ for announcing etc. with out using an external mixer? Midi mapper has a mic volume control but I have no idea how to set this up. I use the M-Audio Fast Track Pro which has a balanced output for main program (Channnels 1 & 2) and I have cue mix (Channels 3 & 4) on a headphone out with no problems. The card has two mic/line inputs for recording. I am using a Beta driver for the card because I run Vista if this could be a problem.
If this could work the way I think it could, I could have my whole DJ/VJ system in a backpack to take to the club.
A Man And His Music Dude... I'll be happy to take your "Humor" if it could help me out.

you cant use a mic directly into vdj, but that isnt necessary. as long as you use asio, your m-audio will mix the mic input into the masteroutput which goes to the sound...
first i would try using your mic on one of the inserts on the back and see if that works. if that;s a stereo insert, it wont work, but it could be a channel insert meaning you have two different inserts which are separately mixed.
if that doesnt work, you;ll need to give up the xlr on the front for your mic input and suffice without a balanced output. or you could buy yourself a DAC box which would allow you to use the SPIDF output on the back which you convert to balanced analog for the mains.

Paz75,
Thanks for the reply!
I will try your suggestions on the actual physical connections to the m-audio. It makes complete sense to me... but would I need to
route the mic through the ASIO driver software? The software only has latency adjustments and has no provisions for mic output routing... the sound set up in the sound config is the only way to route signals to the outputs with my current set up.

Chilbe-
I've got a Fast Track Pro as well, and I have been struggling with a way to get the XLR inputs on the front to interface well into VDJ. I don't think that using VDJs mic volume control works with the Fast Track, because there is no way to control the Fast Track levels even with Windows (There are no volume controls for the Fast Track in the "Sounds and Audio Devices" control panel.
I guess one route you could take is to use the monitor/output mixing knob alongside the gain knobs on input 1 and 2 to mix a live monitoring of the mic signals into that master output (the signal doesn't pass through any software layers).
This is the best thing I've come up with so far, so please let me know if you figure out a better solution..

Thanks guys,
I tried all of your suggestions and it seems the mixing knob does the trick (I thought I had tried that before). Actually, if there was a way to add EQ the mic input, it would be perfect as is for me but I am happy with it now.
