QSC PLX 3602, Peavey GPS 3500 or Crown XTI 4000? what would you buy?

either the crown or QSC amp. Peavy amps are mid range sound quality and more aimed toward bands then DJs

I have two of the Crowns (xti 4000) and like them a lot. Much power and builtin digital processor with lots of settings. I dont understand that they could make these for the price they ask. A couple years ago my digital processor alone was more expensive than 2 of these. Will try the i-techs soon for comparison.
Ewout

Get the QSC PLX 3602, more bang for your buck, and it weighs less. What are you driving?

There is enough power from all 3 of these amps for what i want it for but how do you know which one is best all im really interested in is build quaility and sound quaility. Your thoughts are appriatiated.

Throw the Crown & the QSC up in the air, and the first one to hit the ground is the one. In other words, you can't go wrong with either one. I have used amps from all three companies, and my first choice would be QSC.

The Crown probably weighs a ton, and it will last forever. I have a 20 year old Crown macro-tech 1200, it's a workhorse. It's in a case in the basement. I carry a QSC (I forget the numbers) it weighs 20 pounds, and I've been using it for about 6 years. Either one will last and sound perfect, but if you have to carry it from gig to gig, go with the lighter one.
If it's something that is going into a permanent install, go with the Crown.

This is the new Crown, and it only weighs 19lbs. QSC has been in switching amp business longer than Crown, and that's one of the reasons I picked it first. As far as work horses, I still have a Peavy CS 800, that was dropped down a flight of stairs, and it still plays.

Did you hit the Person you were aiming at?

The Crown is the lightest out of all three! not much positiveness for the Peavey?
Nice to talk amp's it make a change from software issues.

Nah, she was good. I knew I should have just used a gun.

Wow CS 800 I bet you red lined it when you made the switch to mp3? I know cos a friend had one and we had this problem even at 4ohms he thought it was 500w per channel.

It never saw an mp3. I don't think I have used it in 25 or 30 years.

all three are middle range but i agree that the peavey is a little less quality, but then again i feel the same about QSC. by logical deduction that leaves the Crown.

However, case in point: You should never choose the amp before the speaker, any good professional sounder will tell you there is a pairing between amp and speaker. certain manufacturers create bonds with other manufacturers for this.

in that case i perfer powered speakers because you can get a bit closer to a decent pairing. (depends of course on the quality of the brand as well).

i jsut got a crest 7001 off ebay for $500. a sound enginer freind told me about them while he was bidding of 12 for him self and when asked him about a crown machrotech he said there equal but the crests are cheaper cause they dont advertise as heavly as crown. and if he says it it golden he been the sound guy for several major touring bands

oh and amahm i have 2 of the peavy cs800 and yes they will last a lift time if you can ever manage to lift them by your self as there an 800watt amp that weighs almost 70 lbs that new crest i have is around 1600watts at 4ohms (for both sides total) and its only 50lbs

aned paz is right jbl has paired with crown and theres now crown amps in some of jbl's newer powered speakers hows that for a kick in the pants.

Ricardom, What is the name and company of the very top unit in your rack, where you can plug the speaker wires for the speakers?

for me I use the Mackie FR 2500. This amp could be pushed to the limit and never brake a sweat.

It is a custom made panel. I just made the holes, and mount the speakon jacks and XLR jacks. It makes the job preatty fast and easy.

And in the front side of the rack, the top panel is only a XLR jack for the RTA mic, connected to the DEQ 2496 (but now that EQ is dead... crappy unit)

Crest are Peavey now, Peavey bought Crest in 98
