Topic: Purchasing VDJ 5 for Mac or PC

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi i am sorry if this is a stupid question but i can't find the answer unless i can't see it for looking at it.

If i purchase Virtual DJ 5 for pc and mac, do you get any updates that come out or would they stop when VDJ 6 comes out?

Basically, are you only buying VDJ 5 or is it lifetime free updates no matter what version number it goes to?

thanks in advance,

Stevie.

Since VDJ 1.0 at today the update is FREE.

stevie, thats a good question. every software vendor has an upgrade and support policy for both minor and major versions. major versions like going from 5 to 6 could often require another license costing money.

i've never seen an official policy about vdj but so far have gone from 4 to 5. maybe one day original license holder would need to pay again (or an upgrade) if required, but i doubt that will be for a long time. from noting previous history, that could be never.... ;-)

quite often it depends on the cost of the 'code-line'. when management has decided that the next step in evolution of their code-line is going to be horribly expensive, they do one of two things:

1) increase the unit price (which kinda messes it for everyone).
2) introduce a new key algorythmn which invalidates prior license owners.

both can be percieved to be evil, but a company needs money to survive. #2 is actuall often the lesser of two evils because the unit price is still the same and probably to maintain competitiveness. it means some prior users are pissed off, but if the choice was made to do this for the right reasons, buying the new version again will quickly become clear why it cost another license.

disclaimer: i dont speak for atomix, just giving information on how the software industry works because ive been in it for quite some time

thanks for your help Paz, I really do feel this program is brilliant but still getting problems with audio freezing every so often and it's driving me nuts trying to sort it out before the demo expires!!! Could it be to do with vista as my mate had this running perfectly on xp?

thanks,

Stevie
