I'd be interested in any news on Acer laptops. I'm currently looking at this:

www.asuslaptop.co.uk/proddetail.php?prod=Asus_Laptop_F3Sa-AS006G

yes nice one. any more ideas ? people

@Gary:
That looks like a decent unit, but I remember reading somewhere to steer clear of anything that uses "hyperdrive" video memory, if that helps ;)

@ Alf, what sort of price are they selling for? I can't see a price on the site.

Thats a good point about the hyper memory. Its 512mb dedicated though, is there a way to turn off the hyperdrive stuff does anyone know?

I wish I could help with that, but unfortunately, I don't know...I've never seen one of these beasts :(

It is 1250 euros here in Serbia where tax is 8% on Computers now ;)
It is a mean machine, good for video also. But 8600GT cannot compare with desktop version, it is 25% slower.

Hi, I use an Asus laptop type AJ7C (older type) with a core due processor 1.83 GHZ, 2GB memory and a ATI1600 graphics with 256 MD ram DDR3. Running it on XP pro
Disables as much as possible the services for media center, to get it at a decent speed.

Now it works great with VDJ 5.05.
(all video's are compressed from VOB to Divx format -> fast loading, good quality)

Average CPU consumption is about 40% with some video effects active like logo's, text2D...

Only when using automix, video freezes sometimes when new song is loaded or when manually loading a song I have to pay attention not to press toomuch buttons at the same time or doing a search action.

Laptop is about 1 year old - cost was about 1800 euros
Has also build in TV tuner, webcam etc... but I never used it.

Cheers Johans,

Its good to get some ideas on whats good and whats not.

I've currently got 512mb ddr2 video card. Does anyone know how a 256mb dd3 will compare to it?

That looks quite good, the only problem i can see is the fastest processor they do is 1.66 Ghz, and really i want to stick to the VDJ unrecommended spec of 2.0 Ghz or faster.

Gary

thank You all.
Does anybody know what is The fastest and biggest Ati Video Card mounted on laptops ?

Zepto's international site seems to have 1.66 ghz cpu's at the max choice, however, I'm browsing through a reseller/or choose a individual country, not international for Zepto, and then I can choose a 2.00 ghz core 2 duo cpu. Kinda weird, but that should do the job, since it holds a nVidia 8600 512 MB gpu..

And a big plus is the price - nothing I've seen can compare with that.

Asus G2S-A1
