Topic: MAC :: Recomendations for file saving (quality vs bang for buck)

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I still havent purchased VDJ yet, as Im anxiously awaiting the soundcard problem to get fixed. I might just get Virtual Vinyl and use Cue since that is the only soundcard supported with timecode so far. (right?) One of my DJ partners uses my Serato box now anyway so I need a new soundcard. On the Numark Site it doesnt say anything about .vob files being supported. Plus I've been in the forum for like 8 months now and don't want to seem like a trader...

Anyway, Im in the process of collecting Music Videos...So *1st - can anyone that uses CUE confirm if you can run .VOB files?

*2nd - What kind of files have you guys been using? Im about to start ripping a ton of Promo Only discs tonight/for the next week. SHOULD I KEEP THEM AS .VOB FILES (uncompressed as I understand) OR SHOULD I RIP/CONVERT THEM OVER TO ANOTHER FORMAT? What do you guys suggest? So far Ive heard to use .vob files as I try to get only 320 bitrate mp3's. I want a great looking and sounding environment for my audience.

*3rd - I plan on ripping into chapters using Mac the Ripper.

Ive got a pretty mad machine. MACBOOK PRO 17"/2.33ghz/2gb ram/200gb hd. I also have a 250gb external hd but dont want to use and hog cpu power unless absolutely neccessary. So I have space, if need be.

Thanks in advance,

i run a macbook pro 17 as well, i run vob liles and mp2, any way you look at it hard drives are cheap, you can run a 500 gig or a 750 if you wanna get crazy,

dont worry about cpu or ram on your mac, these macines will stomp the planet and VDJ wont slow them down, if you want a great program for ripping dvd's check out mac the ripper

feel free to e-mail me @ schoolofevil@mac.com

I use VDJ - which is the same as cue - and I am able to play .vob files full screen with an external monitor with no troubles. I use a 17" iMac.

BTW - your Visualize logo is awesome. Who designed it?

^ Thanks dude. I designed the Logo. Still workin on the rest of the site but dont want to release till I get everything else straightened out, since its mostly about playing music videos.

Yeah, I know VDJ plays .vob files and im sure CUE does also but it doesn't say on Numark's website.

How about mpeg4 files? Anyone use? Recommend? 12inch.com's downloads are mpeg4s.
