Ok,

I found out A LOT but do not have an answer.

VDJ 4.0 pro & U46dj work fine on my Gateway desktop, powered by USB.

When I duplicate it on my new Dell XPS 1710 laptop (even after a brand new install of VDJ) there is still slight studders and popping.

THis is all with the TCCD disconnected.

What is the conflict with this $3,000 laptop and should I return it?

I take it the sound card is fine but is not cooperating at all with the laptop.

Any expert advice is warmly needed.

i have a few suggestions....

I found that with a dell, the best thing to do is wipe the mutha clean, and reinstall windows clean, and don't add any of the fancy dell crap. also, don't install antivirus......

download all of the latest chipset, video, sound, lan, and agp drivers from dell's support site.

then optimize it.

run windows classic mode in themes... no froo froo stuff....

clean plain desktop.. then right click on the desktop and choose properties / appearance / effects.... un check everything.....

then go to control panel / system / advanced / and check best performance....

disable your network card, and disable screen savers.

download the latest soundcard drivers for your card, and install them.

install vdj 4.0 and leave the settings alone... don't screw with the latency or any of that.... your new machine should work with the default like gravy.

at this point, you should be golden.

remember to defrag once a week, and don't dump anything that's not pristine on your new clean machine......

you may want to go and also download the k-lite codec pack

http://www.free-codecs.com/K_Lite_Codec_Pack_download.htm

this will take care of 99.9% of any codec issues you may ever have...

this is my 2 cents....

Good suggestion from Steve,
I would add:

- Install Windows not from the recovery cd / dvd you got from Dell, because then all the Dell stuff is installed again. Best is to install an oem version.
- Disable power management: Start->settings->control panel->Power options->Power scheme->Always on
- Disable all hardware in "Device manager". During a gig you probably won't use the following: Infrared, Bluetooth, modem, network card, wireless network card (wifi), pcmcia, smart card reader, secure digital host controller, ....
