Currently I use a Compaq (HP) NC6000 with a 1,4GHz Centrino processor. This works ok. Before this laptop I used a Compaq Evo610c with a 1,8Ghz pentium mobile, worked also ok.
I read that the AMD processors are becoming much warmer than the Intel processors, but I have no experience with it. When you buy a new laptop make sure it has a lot of RAM, at least 512MB, but 1024MB will be better. VDJ is storing the complete song in memory, so especially if you play long songs (12Inch versions) it is recommended to have a lot of memory.
