Topic: Record a gig with another DJ
Dear Community,
I have a few questions regarding the following console setup:

Equipment:

2x CDJ-1000 MK2
1x DJM-900 NXS2
1x DDJ-XP2

Connections:

The CDJs and mixer are connected via HID mode using Ethernet cables through a switch.
The mixer and DDJ-XP2 are connected to my laptop via USB.

I have an upcoming gig where I’ll be sharing the console with another DJ.
My laptop runs VirtualDJ (VDJ), with Decks 1 & 2 assigned to USB A.
The other DJ will use USB sticks directly on the CDJs (Channels 3 & 4).

QUESTIONS

Smooth Transition: Will the transition between us be seamless, or are there any specific settings that need to be adjusted on the CDJs?
CDJ USB Link: If the other DJ wants to use a single USB stick and have it accessible on both CDJs (I believe this is called the LINK function), how can this be achieved given that the CDJs and mixer are already connected via HID mode?
Recording the Session: I typically record my set using the Record button in VDJ. Is there a way to also capture the other DJ’s session through VDJ, or is there another method to record the full set?

Thanks in advance for your help!

PS sorry I am not able to upload pictures (It gives me a cloud error back).

Something is wrong here.
Do you mean CDJ-2000NXS2 maybe ?
Because CDJ-1000MK2 don't offer USB or LAN connections :P

If you're using 2xCDJ2000NXS2 + 1xDJM-900NXS2 then:

1: You have only 2 CDJ's, so it's best that both of you use the same mixer channels. You will simply switch the SOURCE knob on top of each channel to USB or LINE depending on who's playing at the time.
2. That's also the way to transition from one to another. You "flip" one deck to LINE or USB first, then you "flip" the other.
3. Since your CDJs and DJM are already connected via LAN cables, the other DJ won't have any problem at all to use LINK protocol to load files on both CDJs from one USB. The LINK protocol can do both (this and HID) at the same time
4. You will record the set via VirtualDJ as per usual.
The record loopback source of DJM-900NXS2 outputs whatever the mixer is sending to it's master. Therefore you will be able to capture/rec the entire session, even if no channel is set to USB on the top panel.

Conclusion:
What you're after is quite easy and trouble free.
All you have to do though, is to make sure that BOTH OF YOU use the same mixer channels!

Pay extra attention at "Deck Assignment" chapter
I don't know how you have your gear setup at the moment, but in case you need to change the order of the decks, remember that for CDJs it's their PLAYER NR that determines which deck they control in VirtualDJ when used via LINK

Yes CDJ2000NXS2 sorry.

That's fantastic news. Obviously I will test it before.

Thank you for your thorough response!

VDJ community is one of the most unique features of using VirtualDJ.

Ciao!

Hello there here I am again...

I understood the other DJ and myself we need to use the same mixer channels and to switch from USB A to Line.
But when I connect CDJ2000 to VDJ I need to press the LINK button on each CDJ, then navigate the screen and select "Control Mode (DJM-USB A) > USB MIDI.
When the other DJ using USB sticks comes into play what should he do?
And when I switch back after his set, I have to re do the Link button procedure?

Thanks in advance!

Last night I had all the responses I needed... live 😅
It worked seamlessly except for USB PORT A of DJM900 NXS2 which was not working properly and acting weirdly (ultimately I found out it had an hw issue) , but it took me 20 mins during the soundtrack to find it out whilst I was breaking out in a cold sweat 😅
Thanks again!
