Topic: How to physically store large number of music files in folders on PC
My music collection consists of about 2500 mp3 files. I have physically stored these 2500 files on my PC in 15 different folders (genres).
It seems to me a difficult job to create new genres (and new physical folders) and then maintain the links that the VDJ database to the relevant MP3 files.
a. Is there a safe and fast method to physically drag a large number of files on the hard disk, to various other folders and still maintain the VDJ database integrity?
b. Is it smart to store all 2500 music files in one and the same folder on my hard drive? Changing the genres of the files becomes a lot easier, because I can control all that in VDJ, but on the other hand, searching with Windows explorer in one folder makes it super slow.
c. What is the smartest way to physically organize so many music files, in relation to VDJ, on my PC?

In my opinion you don't need lots of different folders, using genres or whatever, as long as your files are correctly tagged - because once they're added to the VDJ database, you can find anything anywhere.

2500 is not a large number of files. I've got nearly 50,000 here and some DJs have even more!

I have 192k tracks on a library drive M: Parent folders by decade/subfolders by genre; Dj tracks by tag in grouping field.

just use VirtualDJ to move things around. and if you need LOTS of organization - My Library plugin is your best friend
