Im using a relatively old Soundcard (Numark DJio) and a Numark Stealth Control with a 2 Speaker by JVC and a cheap amplifier...
It only happens in VirtualDJ in Soundcloud i can listen to music in full volume for hours without any problems.

I don't know how you perform, but the behavior you describe fits perfectly with a sub that overheats and shuts down to cool down it's amplifier.
I guess it happens only with VirtualDJ because you play louder or because the sound is richer in bass and thus the sub has to work harder.
If the sub started doing this recently, it worth's to have it checked out in service because it may indicate of a component going bad.
