I have a ddj 1000. I normally use a MacBook pro but back up computer is windows based. I know there is different firmware, 1 ver for mac and 1 for windows. If I load the firmware for using the mac but for some reason have to switch to my pc canI have both firmwares installed? Is the firmware actually on the ddj 1000 or does the controller read it from a file on the specific computer?

The firmware is the same for both MAC and Windows.
The application to load the firmware on the device is different!
And finally firmware is stored on the controller board.
So, once you update firmware (in either a Windows or MAC PC) the result is the same. Your device gets updated and it will work fine with either OS
What you should notice though, is that MAC and Windows have/need different drivers.
Drivers are installed on the computer, not on the controller.
So, on each computer (Win or MAC) you may want to use your DDJ-1000 you will have to install it's corresponding drivers.
