It's just that, experimental, it's all the trial tweaks to the skin engine that hopefully make the skin run; clearer, faster, more memory & processor efficient. It might also contain code for any new [unpublished] skin elements the devs may be working on.
Generally if the skin is fine stick to the default skin engine, but if you see some skin artefact it's best to report it & say if changing to the experimental fixed it [or didn't]
