is it still possible to add VST effects to a microphone without using up a deck and without affecting music in 2021? CAn someone direct me to how?

Yes, it has it's own effect slot
Maybe look at he scripts on the "Mix FX" pad page for inspiration
...or simply use that to select and activate your mic fx
(remember that you need new 64-bit -vst plugins if you switched to 64-bit to get VDJ2021)

Thanks. I'm not good with scripts and am new to VDJ. I need detailed instructions please.

Then use the pad page:
1. Download the Mic FX pad page from under extensions
2. Select it in the pads section
3. Select the effect you like from the drop down
4. Turn it on
