Topic: MacOS Catalina - How do I point virtual DJ to a moved library folder

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi All,

I have always kept my music library in my root folder on my main drive on my Mac. I upgraded to macOS Catalina and it no longer allows you to modify or have folders in the root drive. How do I point virtual DJ to the new location that I am moving my music to so that it recognizes it as my music folder?

Thanks,
Tim

This video tells you how the folder system works in VDJ...

You can also access tutorial videos through the config area of VDJ. The above video is the first in the series.

Thanks but I’m not sure I was completely clear with my question. I would like to preserve all of my playlists and VirtualDJ structure. Not just point it to a new location.

You're probably going to have to run the playlists through a text editor and do a search & replace on the location then.

There's a utility called PlaylistFixer which does that kind of thing, but it's for PC only.

Ok, Thanks. I did that with a text editor quite a few years ago when I moved a library. I'll try it.

Does anyone know if there is a drive location that would be read the same way from both PC and Mac? The C:/Music location always worked for both. That's one of the reasons I used it. But now that we can't use the root folder on mac that won't work anymore.

Update:

So I updated the datablase.xml file with the new music folder path. I just used a text editor with the find and replace function. All of my virtual folders are working. But interestingly all of my playlists are working as well. I didn't have to do anything to them to update the new location after I updated the database.

Perhaps the playlists reference the database?
