Cn anyone explain how to run deck 1 and 2 in mono?

In Audio config you can select mono output for whatever you want and even route outputs
i.e.:
master - default - chan 1 (mono)
master - default - chan 2 (mono)
gives a double mono output

deck1 - default - chan 1, nothing
deck2 - default - chan 2, nothing
gives two independant mono outputs
 
Interesting! I've been applying an effect on the Master channel that switches the output to mono, but I like this way better.
 
I can't seem to get this to work for me using a mixer, like when I use the Pioneer DJM S9 Mixer, it loads the default audio config for that mixer, I have to change the far left drop down to change the item from the S9 to 'Master' but either way, whether I leave that drop down alone, or change it to master, when I go to edit the outputs, the default is

DJM S9 1&2 for the Left Deck
DJM S9 3&4 for the Right Deck

If I change any of these to Mono out 1 or Mono out 2, there's no audio, there's not even any audio showing up on the LEDs for the mixer.

Any ideas?
 
I use focusrite 6i6 usb asio; master chan1 mono, master chan2 mono, headphones 3&4
