Topic: Australian Music Licensing - PPCA

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hello,
I've been a bedroom DJ for several years and now I'm making the move and turning it into a company, which means I have to keep things legal.

I've been talking to providers and been getting mixed answers or just told to speak to a lawyer about this question:

A few years back, I heard that if a non-monetized party in a non-commercial venue (a house) was specifically invite only then a music license is not needed, any Australian DJ's on here know if this is still true?
I intend to play at schools and such so I'll be getting a license(s) anyway but if I can save on the $226 fee until I actually need it, that would be nice.

Another question:

PPCA or APRA
They both hand out DJ licenses but PPCA says you need theirs over APRA, is this true or did I misread something?
