Topic: Genre tags all messed up

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Today I upgraded from 8 to 8.1 Most of my genre tags are showing incorrectly. I have genres showing up which I don't have And in those I'm getting various genres showing For example I never had a genre named rap but since upgrading to 8.1 now rap shows up In the rap genre I show hip hop/rap (which is one of my genres) and v- hip hop/rap ( which is my video genre Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug I use iTunes for my music and my tags are updated to v 2.3 I rely heavily on genres for my shows and need to either downgrade to v8 or get this fixed thanks

Here's a screen shot

It looks like your using the "My Library" plugin, is this correct?

Because you have the / in the tag, it is thinking that is a separate genre. This is what the "group by genre" filter does.
If you were to create a filter with "genre = rap", you would have different results.

It appears the genre's are showing correctly in the browser per your discription of your genre names.

I am not using the my library plug in I agree the / is probably causing this But I never had this issue in version 8

Unfortunately, I cannot remember if this behavior changed between versions. I usually use the different genre options with the My Library plugin, so it groups things together. The Auto list creates a list of genres like I described with the grouping.
But, am I correct that your genre's show up properly in the browser field?

In the browser field they are correct

Before, only ; was recognized as delimiter between genres, but since the last update / was added as well because that's what our content unlimited provider uses as well.

Adion, are you saying after 13 years of tagging my music the same way I have to change? Not trying to sound rude but every other Dj software out there since their inception has worked fine with the /. Is there a setting that can be added to toggle this feature ?

I don't see what the problem is.

Your tracks are tagged as Hip-Hop/Rap which is generally accepted to mean that it could be classed as Hip-Hop or Rap (or both). Logically, this means that it should appear under both Hip-Hop and Rap tag headings - because that's what's been specified in the tag.

If you don't want anything to be classed as Rap, then don't use Rap in the tag. :-)

Groovin you may not see it as an issue , I've been reading my genres the same way since 2001. I now have two genres hip hop & rap with some
Of my music in one and some in the other . This is not the only genre that had done this I have 26000 MP3 and 8000 videos that are appearing in different places For me it's a huge issue

You can use your tags as usual by creating specific filters instead of using the auto or group filter. Use genre=rap and genre=hip-hop/rap for example.

I could do a few things, I could eliminate the / and use something else. The question is why should I have to, the software has functioned the same way since its inception. Every other software out there reads it just fine. I understand that content unlimited now uses the / hence the change, all I'm asking is give me the option to toggle it rather than having to change my libraries (multiple computers & backups) and the way I have always been able to use the software.

Now that sounds like a bug. If they're all tagged as Hip-Hop/Rap then they should all appear under both Hip-Hop and Rap.

I'm still not sure I see big issue.
You use a filter folder to auto populate genres. I wouldn't think it would disrupt your flow to add a few more specific filter folders for specific genres. This allows you to keep tagging your library as you always have.

The easiest option for me is to replace / with \ and the folders correct themselves... Im concerned if I make that change that my old playlist in history will not find the song. I not only have playlists in VDJ, I also have 15 years worth of playlists in Traktor. Im not going to go back 10 years and pull songs but I may go back a year or so

If you change something in the tag, that won't affect the database in any way (inc playlists) because you're not changing the file location or name.

IIWY though, I wouldn't do anything right now. Give Adion and the team some time and see if an option to ignore / is added (or ideally the ability to set your own separator).
