Topic: Laptop Graphics card questions

Greetings!
I am in the market for some new gear. I was looking at some laptops for video dj'ing. I saw some laptops that have things card like the Raedeon R4, R5, and R6 in the $400 ish price range. I currently use a 2 laptop setup running Mixx for audio and i just run my own video reels from vlc/media player, etc. I am interested in actually using VDJ for video mixing, but when it comes to mobile video cards I am an imbecile. Can anyone shed some light on minimum/recommended cards? I know that VDJ asks for an Nvidia/AMD dedicated card with 256mb. I assume a radeon R5 or 6 with 1gb would far surpass "Nvidia/AMD dedicated card with 256mb", correct? SHould I just build a small desktop with my old GTX250 i have laying around?

generally i would suggest an Nvidia Card with 2GB Ram and at least a Intel HD 4000 or onboard or higher as basic specs for Videodjing
 
Just so I am clearly understanding you, I would want both an integrated card and a dedicated in the same laptop? I assume that means I set the video driver to use the dedicated card for playback in a case like this?

Most systems offer onboad graphics by default.
Only some highend units or special gaming laptops still have only one very powerful videocard.
 
Again, thanks a ton for answering, I really appreciate. I seemed to notice a preference for Nvidia over AMD on the forums here. Are there performance issues with AMD or is it just personal preference? How about AMD CPU's in regard to vdj'ing.

There are a lot of AMD Users here with no issues, but generally i would recommend to use Intel CPU´s and Nvidia Card.

I found this Mobile GPU benchmark chart that may be helpful to those with similar questions. It seems an intel HD 4000 is the LEAST people want in a vdj laptop, so this list has made it pretty easy for me to see where a certain GPU stacks up compared to the barest of minimums.

I built my own computers, and only used Nvidia cards, because I'm a video DJ. When I started, the Radeon cards had a lot of issues. I have never used them, but listened to those that did. AMD bought Radeon, and their cards have gotten better. However, I have only used Nvidia cards, and have never had an issue, even with the most basic card. After several builds, I decided to trade in my desktops, for a laptop last December. I did not hesitate to get a machine that had a Nvidia card. I know some guys here say they use the Intel 4000. All I can say is, I do not remember hearing anyone on here say they had an issue with a Nvidia card.
