Topic: VDJ LE Upgrade

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

As you've probably figured out, I have Virtual Dj LE.

Last time I checked (which was a while ago), I would be able to upgrade to pro for $150. When I input my serial number, I get a $20 discount only.

Has that always been the case or is this a new (ish) development?

Seriously?!

Well...that's unfortunate. I picked up my decks after a break, and I was really considering getting it. Given the price change, I'm going to have to re-think purchasing it...

Typically in life, you get what you pay for. Each of us has to decide what is the value of the products that we buy. Every product is not for everyone, that is why we have choices. There are other products on the market, but I chose this one, because of the value to me. Not only does VDJ offer more than the others that I tried, but I am not constantly going in my pocket for every little upgrade. So it's not unfortunate that the upgrade is not what you thought it would be, you just have to decide which product offers you the best value, which is not just reflected in the price.

I'm aware. I'm just not sure if it's worth $279. Yes, I can get pro software specific to my controller, but I eventually want to get a different controller. Spending $89 twice for the same software doesn't appeal to me.

What makes VDJ better than, say, Traktor?

Actually, only you can answer that. I needed a software that did everything, audio, video and karaoke, in 2005. I needed a software that worked with any soundcard or controller, in 2005. I like the fact that I have not had to pay out another dime, since I bought it. I use live camera feed. I use content unlimited, all three services. I can play any kind of video file. I like the third party plugins, like Telly Media, Telly Vision, and Freestyle. I like the forum, and can get help at anytime of the day or night. When I bought this software, none of the other software companies came close to these features. There are a lot more things that I like, but they may mean nothing to you. You may not need any of the things that I like, so you have to decide what works best for you. I don't have anything bad to say about the competition, I actually don't even think about them. I know what they do, and I made a choice based on what I need, not what someone else uses. This applies to every part of my life, not just software.

If you don't plan on changing your controller soon you could also consider the controller license.

At this point in time, I only use VDJ for mixing. I don't anticipate using videos any time soon. Content Unlimited is actually the feature that initially drew me to Virtual Dj, and I'd like to use it, but I'm not sure if it's worth spending $279.

I could, but when I get another controller, I don't want to have to spend more just for another license.

So, Adion, does Virtual Dj fit your needs?

He's one of the developers here, maybe re-think the question.

He is the lead developer to be precisely.

If you don't want to spend the money at once. Maybe the 20 dollar monthly subscription is an option. Nix it for one month, give it a good test an rethink your desition.

Spending more money when changing you controller will only be necessary when using a Plus Controller Version.
V8 Pro Infinity supports all these controllers ( number increasing ;-)

so no additional money to spend

...Good idea. I forgot about the subscription method.

Right now I'm trying to get an idea as to what other aspects of VDJ other DJ's use. I'm more or less asking myself "Will I use this feature in the near future?"

My main use for VDJ right now is mixing original music, things I record in Reaper and Cubase are remixed for various dance studios, TV and radio ads etc. I use CU, and aside from a few weird things (not a huge deal) I've found that VDJ is everything I need.
I'm using Mixtrack Edge controller and it's actually ideal for everything I've needed.
