Topic: loading upcoming song of an automix playlist into another deck

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Good morning!

I would like to create a shortcut to load the next song in an automix playlist (which is running on the right deck) to the left deck.

I thought this should work, but it doesnt:

deck left load "get automix_song 'filepath' & get automix_song 'filename'"

Anybody of the pros has a suggestion?

Thanks!

deck left playlist_load_and_remove

Maybe this?

Thanks for your quick answer.

No, I wish to keep the playlist and dont delete items, so you idea does not work for me.

There must be something wrong in the way I add the two queries of get automix_song. But I cant figure out what.

deck left playlist_load_and_keep

or

get_automix_song "filepath" & param_cast & deck left load

Doesnt work. Your first statement loads the currently selected song, the second does nothing.

What I am looking for is the song that is next in the automix playlist (the one after the currently playing). This one I would like to load into the second deck with a hotkey or controller klick.

Anybody else has some ideas?

You can try the action "mix_next".

Thanks for your suggestion, but mix_next does initiates an auto crossfade immediately. What I am looking for is a manual crossfade. Therefore I would like to have the next song loaded in the other deck.

Switch to dual deck automix, honestly your demand list is silly, if you want to mix don't use automix.

The point is that dual deck automix in VDJ is not very practical. Especially compared to Traktor. There you can manually crossfade to the other deck and the automix playlist just takes over from there. In VDJ you are out of the Automix when you do that.

Can you elaborate more on your end goal? Are you running automix and then occasionally playing a track manually, then want it to go back to automix? Is there a reason you want the song to stay in the mix list? Are you not happy with the automix mix points? There may be another way to achieve your end goal if we know more about the scenario.

Thanks for asking.

I am a dancer teacher and used iTunes for the last 12 years. Usually I prepare playlists before the classes and then make minor modifications during the session. I have the wish to be more flexible and mix in a different song or leave a song earlier so I am checking if a DJ program would work for my needs. I played around with Traktor and like the way the Automix is implemented there. As I said, in Traktor you can manually do the crossfades and the automix just continues and takes over from there. However I start to like Virtual DJ and I wonder how I could make it easier to have an automix playlist running and occasionally do the transitions manually. My thought was to use automix in one deck mode and have a controller button assigned to load the next upcoming song into the free deck to make a manual transition. I know that still means I would have to do a manual transition back into the other deck that runs the automix playlist when the song is finished.

Dont know maybe I am trying too hard to make Virtual DJ work a way it is just not intended to be and I have to let go of that. Or I will have to use Traktor when they will release Version 3.

Then just turn automix off from manual times and back on otherwise, why complicate pressing one button.

There are a couple things I can think of that may help.
The mix_next option that was given earlier will allow you to mix sooner as you know. Dragging a file in the mix can change the order.
You can map a button to load the song from a list into a deck and disabled auotmix at the same time, make your manual mix, then turn automix back on with a different button.
Is there a reason the song cannot be removed from the list?

Thanks for your suggestions. Mix_next or also automix_skip just does a quick 3-4 sec transition, regardless of the automix crossfade duration settings, that never sounded nice to me.

The reason I keep the playlist is that I save them for a later reuse. And I can track which songs I taught in which class.

After saving the playlist and then loading in either the browser or a sidelist/automix list, you can play the songs and remove them. Reloading the playlist will bring them back again. It will only change if you save the list again.

The history lists can show you what was played and at what time.

Thanks, thats a good hint. I will try that out.

I noticed that when auto mix is on and I push a button that is assigned to playlist_load_and_remove not the next upcoming song is loaded into the deck but the one that is already playing on the automix deck.

The reason is that even with automixAutoRemovePlayed set to yes that the current song is not removed from the automix playlist when being LOADED into the deck but only after been PLAYED.

So unfortunately that won't help me here.

After it loads the already loaded song, does it remove it from the list?
Could you then hit the button a second time to load the desired song?
