There were some rumors a few months back that the CDJ's are being phased out and are going the way of the Tech 1200. It sort of makes sense now since Pioneer is selling off their entire DJ division. It'll be interesting to see if the new owners will either license the Pioneer name and keep it the same, or if they will completely redo everything...products and name together.

$570 million is a lot of money, so I forsee it being a group of private investors. I dont see a company like InMusic, Beatport, NI, or Serato buying them. Apple possibly since they could easily buy it with their pocket change, but since they just recently acquired Beats, I dont see them having much interest.

The BPM exhibition in Birmingham UK next week may well be a good place to spot corporate buyers in & around the Pioneer stand.

We may not be able to instantly put names to faces, but could maybe put two and two together. No doubt the journos will be quizzing the Pioneer crew.

:-)

Numark has been buying everyone else.....

Atomix should buy them so we can get a ddj-sx2 equivalent with VDJ instead of Serato

OK, let's fire up some crowd-funding at indiegogo or the like. I'll pitch in a few bucks.

Lol They made all those controller made just for Serato,& the new buyer are going see $$$ and VDJ and other Dj software will be on it list made just for the software.

Pioneer is selling the DJ division because people still have old cdjs and don't want to spend that big amount on a new CDJ. The cdj 2000's and the nexus are not selling aswell because people are buying the DDJ SX controller instead or the New DDJ SZ. Even the Old cdj 1000's are becoming very hard to sell. Used turntables are selling more. I sold my Cdj 2000's a year and a half ago because I knew they will lose value quick.. Now no one wants to buy them unless its a club that needs them. The CDJ 2000 nexus sales are bad.

My thoughts? It will not affect me one way or the other.

disturbing

is it still worth it to buy pioneers

Has it ever been worth it?

LOL

as a musician who has come late into DJing, to run alongside my other musical interests, I have missed completely the vinyl and CDJ era, and come straight in at it at the digital laptop end..

I am well aware of what to do, as my brother is a vinyl DJ ( now a DDJ with VDJ ) but I have to say, swapping a CD all the time, or changing a record, for me, just doesn't make any sense when compared to just turning a knob on your controller and having it all there.. yes, I have upset people already, and yes, I clearly have no clue on the subject, but come on, its common sense..

the flamers and haters who live by their old ways will just get left behind eventually. I have used DVS systems, and they are great, but you either lug around all that stuff or a laptop and controller.. it is a no brainer for me!

this is just my opinion, which doesn't really matter, as it is just that, my own personal opinion, but its shocking at first to see this happen, just like Technics, so maybe not many people are buying CDJs, as the clubs all have them, but people who play at clubs now, can bring their own controller and laptop.

the natural trend and backlash to it all, and im just rambling now, is to rebel, and CDJs have been up there for a long time. we all laugh and balk at the idea of us all using iPads to DJ with, but I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised if thats the norm 10 years from now.. It's like Moore's law for DJ'ing.. everything gets smaller, meaning lesss gear.. if only theyd do this with leads! pah!

As an old school vinyl DJ, I totally agree with you. I have not touched vinyl since 1990, and sold my 1200s. I have not touch a CD since 2003. People have a skewed view when it comes to fundamentals. The notion that in order to be a great DJ, you have to learn from a turntable and vinyl, that this is the fundamentals. Wrong, it has never been about the equipment. We do not teach surgeons the fundamentals, with sharp stones, a twig to bite down on, and a shot of whiskey. Actually, that may be taught in an advanced class of surgery, after you learned the fundamentals. That's old technology that does not work for the general public. Some under developed countries may still use this approach, but they are under developed. This sale, if it goes through, will probably not affect most of us in the near future. As for the next ten years, I believe the DJ will be like the Walking Dead. Don't quit your day job.

i guess i am the only one that realizes they will not just be selling off turntables and cdjs its controllers, mixers and what ever else they make for djs.

i think it would be a sad day if the company that purchases them doesn't continue to manufacture their products. also you can bet other companies prices will go up why because they can.

That will not happen. If you are buying a DJ products company, you will stay in the DJ products business. They will continue for awhile, but I believe the "DJ" will become less of a factor, in the coming years.

My weird idea...

A couple of days ago Panasonic announced to revive Technics. No, not for DJ products and turntables, but for mid- and high-end hifi systems.
So, what if... Panasonic bought Pioneer DJ, and will use that brand for DJ gear?

A Technics Pioneer turntable?, Good god, such a thing would be indestructible.

I still use the Technics hifi separate system I bought in 1990 every day.

Nothing available today can put out the sound quality. I would love to see Technics make a comeback in home hifi.

I think Pioneer is learning the same lesson that Technics discovered years ago. If you make your product too good, you'll lose money. You can still buy a Technics 1200 MKII for the same price as they were going for 20 years ago. Ballpark of $400.00 USD, as long as they work. I think that, as much as better quality from their competition, is what did Technics in as a company. I wouldn't be surprised if Pioneer is feeling those pains today.
