Topic: Is there a faster way to find key or bpm for each track I have in a playlist

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I have 6500 songs and I want to scan all the Bpm's and key's so I have a larger data base when I sort by key. Is there maybe a software or an easier *faster* way than selecting all and scanning for bpm... that takes ... SOOO long. 12 seconds per song 6500 songs ... so a full day if i do it that way.. any suggestions?

Just leave it (analyze files) running over night.

Your library is nearly one tenth of mine. A quarter of which are music videos which takes even more time on analyzing and sorting. You'll get use to it as you do it more often. The satisaction will make you feel it more of a fun than a work.

It's a PART of the job as a DJ.

Cheers!

Yes there are other programs that will analyse your files.......but they all take time to do that.

The speed of processing is determined by the power of your computer. Analyse them on a fast PC and the job will be quicker.

IMO the best software for analysing key is Mixed In Key, which has just reached version 6. This will not only give you more accurate results than VDJ (as it is not biased toward minor keys) but it will also show if the track has multiple keys and give the tracks energy ratings.

What I do is double click on each song as you go down your song list. As each song loads into the empty deck it automatically adds the BPM and key. This has worked for me especially after syncing when updating...hope this helps

Mixed in Key is the way to go IMO as well. I have Version 6 and yes it took a few hours to get through my HD. I forgot to turn off my screen saver and sleep mode and didn't notice it until 4 hours later. One note: Mixed in Key costs money but there is a free option as well.

In VDJ you can select all and batch scan or get an external one that is free but it's not 100% and I can not remeber the name right now. However you have to be a registered user with PRO for this to work as you need to download a plug in to reset VDJ's database to let the new keys update. DJ Tech Tools has a review on all of the Key analyzing software out there (well the top 20 anyway) and they say that Mixed in Key 6 is perfect in their non-bias test.

I always found music videos to do quicker.

I use VDJ in sorting my daily video dowloads of mp4s.
It's a physical move from New Dowload Folder to other Folders Categorized by Genre. This is where "it takes more time" for videos to be moved or copied that I am talking about. MP3s are quicker to manage on this particular step.

After this, I analyze my files in Mixed In Key. It's a good feature that it skips the already analyzed ones.

Then I update my Serato Crates.

If somebody who uses all these 3 softwares and have a better method, I am open for suggestions.

Thanks

I would live my folders and playlist in serato without having to build creates each time, other than that im happy.

bloody nora 6500 songs? honestly i dont think itll take that long for those.

Is it possible to create a playlist and have all the cues for exiting one song and beginning the next already setup in the playlist? The idea is when you come to mix, you have already done the hard work.

Is it also possible to intermittently play from deck 1 whilst playing deck 2?

Thanks
Jason
