Topic: Controlling all VDJ features using XDJR1

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi all. Apologies if this is a noob question but is there a way to control the all of the features of VDJ using the XDJR1? Basically I want to be able to control the entire interface (both or all decks and all of the mixer features) using the hardware. I have switched to XDJR1 mode in the mixer settings menu but this only seems to control certain parts of the interface (mostly the decks).

Both mixer channels from the software only appear to run via one channel on the hardware's mixer and none of the knobs on the hardware mixer appear to control those in the software. Both decks respond when I touch the platters or pitch control. I basically just want to operate all of the software's features using the hardware.

Apologies if this has been answered previously. If it has and somebody can post a link to the relevant thread I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

Generally, the whole idea of having hardware is that you don't need the software...especially with a unit like the R1 which is capable of playing music without a computer.

VDJ only has a mixer on screen for people who don't have a controller and/or are happy using a mouse.

When you have an actual physical external mixer, the need for the "pretend" one on screen is removed. You don't need it, you have a real one! You don't even need decks on screen come to that. You have physical ones in front of you.

When you have hardware, the screen only needs to be there to show your song library and anything else not available on the hardware.

Thanks for the reply. I understand what you're saying but it would be nice to be able to control all of the additional fx and also to be able to see the waveform of the track whilst it's playing but using the hardware. As a midi controller, you should be able to control all aspects of the software interface via the hardware surely?

Cheers though.

If you read the XDJ-R1 manual, you will notice that on page 27 (top right) it explains the difference between XDJ-R1 mode and PC mode.

I'm a typical bloke and NEVER read manuals. Perhaps it would be a good place to start in this case!

Thanks again.

Hi to all! i just bought the new pioneer xdj r1 and i want to know were i can download the virtual dj that i can use with this controller. and i want to ask to if i can use the vdj as the software with this controller to search and assign the music to this.

Thanks

Yes there is a download for that controller, but you would have to have the pro version software and a license to use it and download for it to work...
If VDJ came with the unit you bought, then you need to register it and then it should work...

I have this unit...I love it.

First part of your question...

I believe on the bottom of the mixer is a serial for VDJ. At the top left under your forum name you see "download center" tab ... Register the serial then you should be able to download the VDJ version that comes with that unit. I believe it is VDJ LE.

The second part of your question....you do that thru the VDJ software.

Most importantly....read the VDJ manual that will be bundled with the installation file or look thru the VDJ wiki on this site under support/help. Also read the XDJ R1 manual!

If you upgrade to VDJ pro (at a discount because of the unit) then you will be able to re-Map buttons on the xdj-r1 decks to have them perform a task more to your liking. I did this so I can have a loop-in and loop-out buttons similar to the CDJ 1000 decks.

Thank you all for your advices, can you give me the link were i can download de program?=???
