This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hey guys, new poster here. Got some vinyl decks but finally making the transition to some CDJ's although still keeping my old rig.

Ive found some nice mid range CDJ's and a mixer in my budget to start up can someone tell me The steps to hooking it up to virtual dj What accesories id need, for good quality and keeping on a budget and keeping costs as low as possible?

Im getting 2x Numark ndx 400 CDJ'S and a numark m101 Mixer. And thats what i have ordered up to now, what external things will I need to have them fully compatible and working with virtual DJ? Thanks

You do realise that none of that kit has USB connectivity, and so can't be used to connect directly to your computer and control VDJ?

The only way to use VDJ with analogue kit like that is to use a timecode configuration, so you'll have to buy yourself an audio interface with a minimum of two stereo inputs (too feed each CD player output to VDJ) and two stereo outputs (for the VDJ audio to feed into the mixer).

A timecode setup like that will only allow track stop/start and tempo - that's it.

You'll have no control over other aspects of the software from the CD players or the mixer, and will have to use a mouse & keyboard for everything other than stop/start/tempo.

What do you reccomend then? I can cancel my order, i was trying to avoid the full little usb kits because there frowned upon and dont feel physical? Is that the only option or should i just look for a cheap timecode as i would prefer cdj

It also might be worthing that i dont really mind not using virtual DJ's effects, and that the main ultimate thing i want is the access to the filebrowser system for each of the CDJ

Well you need to ask yourself - do you want to play CDs or use Virtual DJ?

If you want to play from computer then there's little point in buying CD players, unless they are combi ones that can also be used as controllers.

You say "frowned upon". By who?

If you're doing gigs playing to the public, they certainly won't be bothered what kit you're using, as long as you are a good DJ.

USB controllers do feel physical. That's the whole idea of them, to allow you to use the software via physical knobs, buttons and platters.

Ive switched my order, and decided to go with the Gemini CDJ' 650s after being made aware of what you said. It does both. Do i need a special mixer to hook it up or will any one do with the amount of inputs?

No, you don't need a special mixer. Any DJ mixer will do, because you would connect the outputs of the Gemini players to the mixer and that would feed the sound from CDs, flash drive or from computer (when they are switched to MIDI) to the mixer.

To use the setup with Virtual DJ you'd connect the USB cables from both Geminis to the computer and set VDJ to output one deck to each Gemini - and you'll need the full Virtual DJ Pro to do that.

hi, every1! dis is dj saheed all d way frm Nigeria. i wanna knw if its possible controlling vdj pro 7 wit Gemini cdj700 via usb cables without a utility driver installed on my pc lik the pioneer asio utility setting driver?

By the way thanks for that groovinDJ i hate it when new comers join a forum and dont say thanks! So thought id come back before i forgot.

Ive got a fare few mixers lining around so that is good, and i cant wait for the arrival of my decks Thanks for the help
