In the audio of the VCI400 is Headphones the only option. Can i use external mixer.

Yes, that's right, the vci 400 uses the virtual dj software mixer and just gives you control over it with the faders and controls. So in the sound setup section of the virtual dj config, you should select the 'headphones' option.
There is an option to plug in external devices (ipods, mics, CD players etc) into channels 1 and 4 of the device and mix those with the vci's built in mixer functionality, but you can't route virtual dj to use the vestax mixer section, if that makes sense?

Yes, in VDJ sound settings, you need to choose 'Speaker + Headphones' as the output.
Not 'External Mixer' - because the VCI 400 does not have 2 separate outputs (only one master) - and cant be used in this mode.
