Topic: Android App - Not a remote

Is anyone working on a true VDJ Android App? Not interested in a VDJ remote control mess. Thanks in advance.

You want the full software on android platform itself?

A full professional quality audio mixing software on the android platform is unlikely with android's framework. The device's could potentially handle it, but the way the framework is set up you would never get the latency low enough to be useful for live mixing. I've done some research, and this is what I've read. The info is a little to tech for me, but that seems to be the bottom line.

You might be able to set up Unbuntu and use wine to run vdj on you andriod, but I'm betting it wouldn't be worth the headache.

According to the pre-release statement some months ago, VDJ8 will be supported on Windows, MacOS and iOS. No mention of Android and I also believe it's not technically possible anyway.

Curiously Traktor has an app for iOS that is amazing... but nothing for Android. Sounds like Android just can't technically handle this kind of app.

I heard from one of my buddies that the newest version of andriod has addressed the latency issues with the framework. If this is true, we might start seeing some real audio programs for andriod and eventually something from VDJ. He's a bit of a story teller, so I'm not holding my breath.

Problem with Android is fragmentation.

Apple generally use the same sound chipsets in all their devices and have done for some time now.

I am a bit of an Android freak and have many Android smartphones and tablets. Some of the on-board sound is great (for example Wolfson chips in some Samsung devices) however some are absolutely terrible (Huwaei etc)

As much as I really dislike Apple I can't deny that both iOS and the Apple hardware handle sound so much better than Android. That is simply why there are so many programs with DJ and production capabilities on iOS and very few on Android.

As far as a remote app is concerned, SBDJ was working on some sort of implementation but I guess this is on the back burner due to the development of V8. The VDJ remote app for iOS is also way out of date so we'll see what happens in the future.

I know this is a late response but...
Have You Heard About Mixvibes On Android... Very Awesome I did an Hour of solid mixing as good as Vdj, Slip Mode, And All Other Basic Functions AS VDJ but they had XY Pad Fx!!!!

Yes, had Mixvibes for a while now. It is excellent and certainly good enough for small gigs with a splitter cable.

Works good for me too, got it on a Samsung S4 as well as a cheapie £140 tablet. We've now seen that it can be done. That's a helluva potential market for you there, Atomix!

More like a helluva potential nightmare.

As kradcliffe said, Android hardware is made by numerous companies whereas iOS is just Apple.

Some Android products will be capable, but many won't be.

I've already seen the result of what happens when DJ software gets released for Android. Loads of people complaining that it doesn't work on their device. Someone from Mixvibes said (in Dec 2013) that there are 1500 Android devices and 4 versions of Android.

Thats not a problem.
You could specify what android version your app needs to run properly. And if your device doesn't fit, it won't be possible to download and install it from the official play store.
Every device that is running the current android version should be strong enough to run such an app.
Older devices will probably not been servered with an update of android. And that's just sad...
