You have to have the pro version, to use a controller.

how do you import this map for the Z1?

will the Hercules Rmx work with the virtual dj 7

Hercules RMX is standard with both vdj7 & 8.you just need to know how to set it up...

here's what I use - I can't remember where I found the basic info, but it works (in VDJ 7 & 8)!

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<mapper device="Traktor Kontrol Z1 MIDI" author="various" description="Traktor Kontrol Z1 MIDI Mapper" version="740" date="19/10/2013">
<map value="GAIN" action="gain" />
<map value="HIGH" action="eq_high" />
<map value="MID" action="eq_mid" />
<map value="LOW" action="eq_low" />
<map value="FILTER1" action="deck 1 effect active ? deck 1 effect slider 1 : deck 2 effect active ? deck 2 effect slider 1 : filter " />
<map value="FILTER2" action="deck 1 effect active ? deck 1 effect slider 2 : deck 2 effect active ? deck 2 effect slider 2 : filter " />
<map value="FX" action="effect active" />
<map value="VOLUME" action="volume_slider" />
<map value="PFL" action="select" />
<map value="CROSSFADER" action="crossfader_slider" />
</mapper>

save it as "Traktor Kontrol Z1 MIDI mapper.xml" in the Mappers folder and it will be picked up when you plug in the Z1. Edit it in the Controller options for your own preference - you might have a better way of using the Filter knobs, for example.

Sorry, the filter lines should read:

<map value="FILTER1" action="deck 1 effect active ? deck 1 effect slider 1 : deck 2 effect active ? deck 2 effect slider 1 : deck 1 filter " />
<map value="FILTER2" action="deck 1 effect active ? deck 1 effect slider 2 : deck 2 effect active ? deck 2 effect slider 2 : deck 2 filter " />

Does this work for Mac as well?
What about the xml file needed for the "Devices" folder?

Traktor Kontrl Z1 is officially supported by VirtualDj 8 in HID mode.
There's no need to use any external "device.xml" file for it.
Also any change on the default mapper can be done very easily by the mappers window on config.

I'm using v8.0.0, it refuses to find the controller. First, z1 appeared in controllers section of config, but then, after i've created an xml for it and restarted the program it disappeared from the list.
It is still available to choose as a soundcard and output device, but what i need is only controls. Drivers obviously are installed. i'd be really grateful if you pushed me in a right direction.

This and all controllers require a pro license, to get full functionality.

You DON'T need/have to create an XML file for it.
If you need to alter the official mapper do it inside VirtualDj 8, and the XML file will be created automatically. This way you can ensure that it will always work, and that the XML file is correct.

In other words, remove any custom XML files you created and restart VirtualDj. The device should get recognized and work fine for 10 minutes at a time (that is if you don't purchase a PLUS or PRO license)
