Topic: How to assign live turntables to decks in Virtual Dj

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I've just saw on the hompeage that you can assign live music to any deck in Virtual DJ, apply effects to it, sync and so on.

I was just wondering how?

I would like to play my vinyl records thru Virtual Dj, use effects, have BPM's show, etc.

My hardware and software is this:

VirtualDj Pro 7.4

PC i7, with enough RAM.

DN-MC6000

2 Stanton Turntables

Right now the turntables are only assigned directly to channel 1 and 4 of the DN-MC6000, so audio is output fine, but no processing is available for the music played by the turntables.

Do I need any extra hardware?, How should I connect the turntables to be recognized by Virtual DJ?

Please keep in mind I'm an old 80's DJ, technology is not that easy for me, although I'll try to keep up with any explanation you might give me.

Thanks in advance and greetings from Mexico.

Prob have to wait for a response from someone who is actually doing it, but I'll give it a shot.

I'd imagine you would need an extra sound card and you would have to set it up through advanced config as an input. Your TTs would play to the computer first then back out through your denon. I don't know how well it would sync without it being able to load the song in so vdj could analyze it. VDJ might be able to pic up a beat, or you could prob tap it in.

Connect your TTs to the AUX 1/2 Inputs of the DN-6000. Assuming that you have Inputs->LineIns to your Sound Setup, all u need to do is to use the AUX buttons (available on each deck) in the Default 4 Decks skin.
VirtualDJ will be able to calculate the BPM with quite good accuracy (depending of the kind of music your are playing). Its doing that in real-time, but for songs with clear beat, it wont be far from the real one. Sync, however will not be possible. The software cant slow down the TT to match the bpm of the other deck :)

Had the Denon didn't realize its sound card would do in too. Thought it was just out. Was a really nice controller, just didn't like the way mics sounded with it.

Does that mean that you could record your shows with mics too, or just from the main four channels with VDJ?
Could you sync the internal decks to the external one, just not the other way around? Sold the Denon to my dad, he might find it useful.

Last question. Can you do the same thing with the DDJSX? I just tried to set the input to line in and hit apply. Gave me an error. Tried to do advanced config, but only gives me an option for outputs.

Djdad, it worked like a charm, first time round!!!!

Thanks so much, now I have my TT's working thru Virtual Dj, perfectly!

So far BPM and effects work perfectly with line in.

I'll try more stuff and comment for anyone interested.

That's awesome. Should have kept it. Hope ddjsx can do it. Might play around with it tomorrow.

Will this work with a four deck setup? Say, decks 1 and 2 running midi, and decks 3 and 4 as aux inputs?

Yes sure and if you even wanted to you could assign a button that'll switch timecode control between all 4 decks.

Just trying to run 2 decks on the controller and use 2 cdjs, while being able to use effects and filters on the cdjs.

I'm not getting a line-in signal when the aux button in the skin is hit unless I switch the channel on the mixer to aux, but I don't get effects that way.

What am I missing?

Similar Question: Aux 1 is a CDplayer (Ch1), Aux 2 is another audio source (DirecTV Audio) on Ch4.
Ch2 set to MIDI USB 1/2, Ch 3 set to MIDI 3/4
I want the xfader to only mix the 2 virtual decks, which it does when the sliders for 1 and 4 are down.

My problem is QUE to headphone. Regardless of which cue light is chosen, I only get audio to the headphones when the xfader is on the side of the deck (I hope this makes sense.

What am I doing wrong??

He is my Equipment:
PC: i5 HP
VDJ
Hercules 4mx Controller

I do a radio Broadcast. I use the Broadcast feature to stream directly to a radio server when i broadcast. I am trying to be able to broadcast another DJ mixing on his system with his Master output running to a LineIn on my system, and I am curious if it is possible to run a LineOut from another controller(S4, using traktor software) into a LineIn on the Hercules 4-mx, and have VDJ recognize the input as a Channel so i can broadcast a Live Mix that is being fed into my VDJ and stream out from my VDJ to the Live Radio Server?

Second question. Conversely, I am curious if it is possible to utilize both the RCA Outputs AND the 1/4" Jack Outputs on the 4mx AT THE SAME TIME?? I have tried but with no success. I just want to to know if it is possible, because i could run more sound without an addition external mixer
