Topic: How to find out what year a song was released

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi guys im looking to sort out my music collection into the year that the songs were released but how would i go about this is there a program that will tag the song with the year released or is it a case of googling :S thanks

In my opinion you shouldn't use an automatic tagging program to go online and find dates for you - it won't be accurate.

The best way to get the correct release date (the year it first came out) is to check sites such as www.everyhit.com if it's a UK chart song or www.discogs.com for other stuff.

Unfortunately the everyhit site isn't bang up to date but the historical stuff is pretty good.
 
I know it might not be totally right but with the ammount of music i have if i was to sit and do it by artist searching on the net i would be here for yearsssss!! lol
