Topic: how to set up karaoke filter

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi Guys,
I'm setting up a new system and want to create a karaoke filter since clicking on myu actiual karaoke folders hangs my laptop as it takes forver to index them. With my old system I was able to make a filter for karaoke that indexed everything instantly, but I can't for the life of me figure out how I did it in the past. I Have 3 folders on my hard drive labeled KJ1, Kj2 and KJ3. Total amount of files is about thirty five thousand. Anyone know what to type in the fileter prompt box to make a rule to searc h for only karaoke files?

by the way, most of my karaoke files are CDG + MP3, but a few are Mp4 or Mpeg.

This is what I use:
ispresent=1 and isscanned =1 and type=karaoke

You have to BPM scan your whole library for it to get all the files. It will not pick up MP4 or MPG. For that I would need a little more info on how you sort your files. Do you keep your karaoke in a seperate directory from all of your music or videos? If so, you could use a filepath starts with statement pointing to that directory.

Thanks for the quick reply. My karaoke files are on an externalk drive labeled H. There are three folders as I had to break them up otherwise VDJ just locked up everytime I tried to open. So I have KJ1, KJ2 and KJ3. KJ3 has a bunch of sub folders like # to A, A to B, C to E, etc.

Is the only thing on drive H: karaoke?

No, I have all my Music (mp3) files as well as Video Files (VOB) on there as well. I think I got it though. I typed in "Type=Karaoke" and it looks like it's finding my karaoke files. From the list though (when I click on the filter in the left explorer window in VDJ) it doesn't look like all my files are there. Also, and this is strange, when I close the program and reopen it, the Karaoke FIlter I created is gone. I have to recreate it each time I open VDJ. On my other system I created the filter once and it has always remained there. Is this a bug in 7.3 or is there a way to save the filter so it doesn't get erased when I close VDJ?

Make sure that you have added all your files to your VirtualDJ database, otherwise they will not be found when typing in the search folder or when using a filter folder (Which searches the database to find its results):

http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Add%20to%20search%20DB.html

Filter folders are saved in the VirtualDJ database, so if it's being lost when you close VirtualDJ then it means that VDJ can't write to the database to save it. Please see http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/VirtualDJ%20Folder%20Permissions.html

NOTE: Having a large number of files in the same folder is not recommended. Ideally, you should organise your music, video, karaoke, etc.into appropriate sub-folders. For music Decade\Genre is a popular method, e.g: Music\80's\Pop. For karaoke, organising by Vender\DiscID is recommended, e.g: Karaoke\Sunfly\SF322.

Thanks for the info., but still no luck. I already had everything scanned and BPM'ed. Also went into the explorer of VDJ again, right clicked and selected "add to database". Then checked all security permissions according to the instructions in the link you sent me and they are all set for full permissions., but still it will not save the Karaoke Filter I create when I close the program.

One thing I found though is even though I uncheck the box for Read-Only in the general tab of the Virtualdj folder and have security set to give full permission, the box next to "Read Only" on the general tab is not checked, but fiilled in blue. I click on it and the box becomes empty and I hit apply and it asks me if I want to apply to subfolders as well and I click yes and ok. I close the window, but if I open it up agai n, the read only box is blue again and the karaoke filter still will not save.

Another thing worth mentioning is on the security tab permissions tick boxes, allow is checked on all, but they are greyed out. I can click on any of the "deny" boxes and a check mark will appear and I can click on it again to make it dissapear, but clicking on the "allow" tick boxes does nothing. Grey check marks remain constant. I looked in the XML file and can see like 7 or 8 copies of the Filter I created each time I opened the program and re-did the filter, so they are being saved in the XML file, but not showing up in the program window. I'm going to try rebooting the computer to see if that works.

Rebooting didn't help. Made another filter and then closed and reopened VDJ and the filter is gone.

may sound silly but have you show video & karaoke & musicchecked.
happened a few times

Yes! Thank you, that was it.
