This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi there I am trying to sort out my karaoke files into artists so they are in individual artist folders. Some of them are named wrong so i am renaming them, But when i rename the file its not changing the name in virtual dj do i have to change the file name and the name in virtual dj for it to work?

Hope someone understands what im trying to do.

Thanks

changing file name with other programs beside VDJ, you need to ADD to database all over again. Renaming it is like adding a NEW SONG and need you to add to the DATABASE again. You can clean, fix etc...your database afterwards.

But if you renme it thru VDJ, then VDJ knows waht to do. Anything done outside VDJ, VDJ does not know what to do untill you add it to database.

So just so i know what your saying (sorry i can be a bit slow) if i rename the file i need to do a clean and fix etc, but if i just rename it in virtual dj then everything will be ok?

thanks for your help, Sorry if I'm bring a bit thick here

If you have a lot of tidying up to do, it's probably quicker to do it outside of VDJ and rescan later. It's not a chore to rescan, and you won't lose virtualfolders, cue points etc for your other stuff either...

Agreed.

Using a program like Bulk Rename Utility is very helpful. I found that renaming them with ARTIST - NAME - DISK-TRACK.ZIP. (Example: Christina Perri - Jar Of Hearts - SF307-18.zip) You will have to clean, fix, and then re add all the stuff to VDJ as stated. If you rename them one at a time in VDJ, you can fix the title, artist, etc. in VDJ, then rename the file from that info and you will not have to rescan.
