Topic: Please Help - Cue problem

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi I'm new to DJing and i disparately need help. I've spent the last day and a half trying to get this to work. combing the web for answers but everyone always say the same thing

I just bought all of these:

controller: Numark Mixtrack (NOT the pro)
audio interface: M-audio Fast Track c400 (not sure if it matters)
and virtual DJ le with Pro trial ( came with controller)

My set up:
fast track c400 USB in computer
speaker in channel 1/2 at back of fast track c400
in the front there is a headphone jack on the c400 headphone plugged in (there is also a headphone volume knob on the c400)

audio settings in VDJ:
inputs set to none
output set to headphones - master 1/2 headphone 3/4
soundcard set to fast track c400 ASIO

Now i have VDJ working perfect but i can't seem to get the cue working properly.

My problem is the sound coming from the speaker is ALWAYS coming from the headphones. I (for this scenario) am playing a track on deck A and want to cue deck B. but when i press cue on the mixtrack controller and turn B gain down all the way. i still only hear the deck A through the headphones, same as the speaker. I turn the cue mix every direction and the cue gain up and down to test and no difference.

The c400 has a software that comes with it. in there you can see what channels are playing. When i turn deck A sound down the meter doesn't move for channel 1/2 but when I have deck B playing (for cueing) the bars are moving and there's no sound in either speaker or headphones.

Is it the soundcard? I notice everyone uses DJ i/o or some "DJ soundcard" or does it matter (if it is i can return since i just bought less than 2 days ago)
is it my set up?
or am I just plain stupid and can't figure out something that seems so simple. I've tried everything I've found on the web nothing makes a difference.

PS. Please excuse any typos as i am really hungry and tired from staying up all night trying to fix this.
If it doesn't make sense please let me know as i am new at this and again tired and hungry :(.

Thank you for responding.

I did all of that. i tried possibly every setting there is. none work. im sure i am missing something but what?

Im at the point where i want to bring everything back.

Are you using the LE version that came with the controller, the home version, or Pro?

LE with 20 day pro trial

Maybe im not understanding how its suppose to work. i thought the cue was a software thing. i did everything everyone says to do online. and it seems simple but it just doesn't work for me.

If i can't figure this out by next week i'll have to bring everything back.
Please someone, anybody

Cue is a software thing if the sound card is capable and set up correctly. This should work with the equipment you have, just have to get the config nailed down.

By looking at the images, Out 1/2 and 3/4 are the jacks in the back. Out 5/6 should be your headphones.
What are your options in the drop down menu to the right of Headphones, for Master: Chan 1/2 /Headphones: Chan 3/4?

Here's a top tip for you: Always read the manual.

I've just had a quick read of the C400 manual, and on page 5 it says "the headphone output always mirrors line outputs 1-2"

So, if you're sending the VDJ master output to channels 1 & 2 of the C400, of course you will hear the same thing in your headphones.

Alright thanks. Thats what i thought, back to the store it goes. I wanted the DJ i/o but they didn't have it so i got this instead. Guess i shouldn't have and just followed my instinct . BUT THANKS ALOT!

BTW no manual came with it. just a quick set up guide, guess i should've look online for it.

Check to see if you can reverse the outputs, putting 3/4 as the master and 1/2 as the headphones, then plug your speakers into the second outputs. This is an option on my Mixtrack.

I use the Dj/io (older version)....It may be on the cheaper side for a soundcard, but it is QUALITY imo.....Sounds good, loud and strong....I think your issue was using an interface setup for recording music, not djing. U mentioned not knowing the difference in a "regular interface/card" from a "dj interface/ card"....this is the difference.....U will be very pleased with the dj/io and save some $$ as well.....Use the ASIO drivers and the setup thru VDJ is a no-brainer.....message me bk if u have questions regarding the DJ/io........

better late than never, i just got my c400 today and yes channel 1-2 is linked to the headphones.
however when u plug your speakers/amp into channel 3-4 and set vdj up in advanced setup as
deck 1 ch 3-4
deck 2 ch 3-4
headphoes ch 1-2

it works just fine like this.

in this configuration the audio in your computer will not work because it will output to channel 1-2 but your speakers are plugged into 3-4.

in the c400 config software, you can change this so you will hear standard computer sound in ch 3-4
