Hi
I'm toying with the idea of (one day...) getting a Vestax VCI-400
Does anyone here use it with VDJ? I'd be interested to hear how well it works.
Also, which edition works best with VDJ - any benefit from the Ean Golden edition?
I dont have vinyl timecodes hooked up to my VDJ Home edition, but does anyone use that with the VCI-400?
How is scratching using vinyl timecodes?
Thanks!

The original VCI-400 is natively supported and optimised to work with VirtualDJ.
The Ean Golden Edition is a modified/customised version designed exclusively for use with Traktor, so it may not work without you custom mapping it yourself (Unless the changes are cosmetic only (Case, buttons, LED colours, etc.) and the underlying MIDI protocol/firmware version is exactly the same as the standard VCI-400.)
If you wish to use it with VirtualDJ and/or timecodes, then you will need to purchase the full VirtualDJ Professional: http://www.virtualdj.com/buy/index.html - Home FREE doesn't support using MIDI controllers and/or timecode, except for 10 minutes at a time as a trial of the full VirtualDJ Pro. If you purchase a VCI-400 with VirtualDJ LE included, then you can upgrade to the full Pro at a considerable discount of 50% off ($149 instead of the normal full price of $299.)

I actually have the vci-400 and i LOVE IT!! i just have to do some custom mappings, but the default mapping works just fine as well.

That's really good to know about the discount when upgrading from the bundled LE, I hadnt realised that.
My concern would be upgrading to use timecodes, then finding I needed to buy a pre-amp or some other hardware.
Maybe I could try testing using the 10min free window then.
Does anyone use timecode vinyl with VCI-400 and VDJ?

Well I'm no hardware expert (your cue Chris, lol) but this was from the FAQ page at the Vestax website,
" > Can I use Vinyl decks? The audio inputs on the VCI-400 doesn't have phono preamp. You can connect vinyl decks by using external RIAA phono preamps or DVS interface."
Now I know VDJ has a RIAA filter in the timecodes configuration screen so it might be possible. But I'm no expert so don't quote me. I might order one just to try it out and see if it's possible, if it is I'll keep cause I'm in the market for a controller that can be used with timecodes and not need another soundcard as well.......
Sorry I couldn't be more help

And if this is just a matter of needing a preamp I guess I could just grab one off of eBay for like 30 or so bucks....... But still would be nice to hear from an expert on hardware......

Even though the EGE looks better it will be more of a hassle... I also assume that since the question on djtechtools as to whether you can upgrade the firmware to include the mixer functionality was never answered, that you can't add that without loosing the EGE firmware.
You should also not that you do not need all the extra messages that the EGE makes to work in traktor as we have a much much better scripting language which means you could replicate it exactly with the standard VCI-400

So due to overwhelming responses I'm gonna assume this controller WILL NOT work with timecodes UNLESS I have another soundcard hooked up........
Thanks for the info

If it does support timecode, how would you route it in the software. Theres no option to route those channels to virtual dj

it doesn't support timecode as there is no inputs on it accept for the mic

no theres two lines on back

they only enable the external mixer mode so you can run turntables or cdj's through them on channels 3 & 4, it doesn't get routed through the soundcard so no timecode unfortunately.
EDIT ---------------------------
Actually I could be wrong, there is 3 stereo inputs that can be used within vdj
