Once again, Native Instruments has upped the ante on the future of the hardware/software drum machine with the announcement of Maschine MkII, Maschine Mikro MkII and the Maschine 1.8 software update. Dubbed “the new generation of Maschine,” both Maschine and Maschine Mikro will receive a major overhaul with new updates to hardware and software, and the addition of the Maschine Stand and colored Custom Kits. But the other announcement, that will have far more reaching effects on work flow and production for any musician vested in the NI Ecosystem, is that Native’s excellent Massive software synth has been included in the new Maschine 1.8 update, providing the user with a new arsenal of virtual synth firepower!

I don't think it would work with Virtual DJ as VDJ doesn't support VST Instruments only VST effects. You could run it standalone but we don't yet have a working midi clock to sync the standalone maschine software to.

NI are milking money out of the customers :P think this could be a good product overall, with the different colors (seen on the f1 to). If already a owner of the first generation Maschine, I dont see to many new buttons or features hardware wise. Guess the maschine could be awsome on VDJ8's sampler (depending on how the sampler will look like). Controlling samples, cuepoints and at the same time full controll over the FX.
